Kennet thread is quiet so far. I'll be giving at a proper go between now and September, can't wait to carry on from my successful winter period on this intriguing river.
Tight Lines all for the new season. Mark |

Out yesterday afternoon for a few hours on the bank. It was great to be back out after a number of months away!
The weather was hot and sultry when I arrived and cool, windy and rainy when I left....It almost felt like fishing both summer and autumn in one session. Anyway, 3 barbel came my way, ranging from 4 to 6lbs. Not huge fish, but in great condition none the less. Cheers all. Simon. |

Hi Everyone. Best of luck for this new season.
Well done Jimmy on your 13 pound barbel. If I'd had caught that fish I wouldn't say where it came from or take a photo with the swim behind me. Beware of the lurkers who take everything and give nothing back. Roy |

Re: Kennet | ||

Hello Roy
Thanks for your concerns about giving away the location etc but the place where I caught that Barbel is one of the best known Barbel swims in the country. Any of the lurkers can fish that swim, they just have to get there first.What I forgot to say is I never mentioned the massive bull who resides there and is a very good friend of mine lol. anyway thanks for your thanks and have a great new season and that go's to everyone. urrrrssss |

First fish of the season and three ounces over 10lb .......... great start
Must admit that the highlight of the day was watching a pair of barn owls quartering the meadow on the opposite bank for over an hour... truly magnificent sight Happy Ian |

Great Day | ||

Had a cracking day on the Kennet yesterday with 8 barbel to 9-2 plus a 5-8 chub - well chuffed
Weather was very strange - one minute freezing cold or raining, next sunny and hot. I lost count of the number of times I had the fleece on and off! Gavin |

Anyone tried the combination lock at the lower benyons car park (upper section)? Went to park my car today and it seemed like the combination code was changed. I tried both codes in the rdaa permit.

Fished 10 till 5 today, split over 2 stretches: 2 Barbel to 8lb 7oz from the first, 3 to 7lb in the second and had a hook pull on a 6th just before packing up.

Err there is no car park for the Lower Benyons (upper section). There is an area designated as a "Match car park", but you're not allowed to park there.

Re: Kennet | ||

Ian,
It looked to me like the weir repair was a work in progress when I was there on Sunday. From what I could see, there was some sort of temporary structure in place and the water level looked to be about where it should be. Mind you, that could have been all the rain we'd had not long before. Guess I should say hello to everyone, now that I've been lured out from lurking. Been following these boards for a while now - not in a "let's see if I can find out where the latest hotspot is" kind of way, success from your own efforts is much more rewarding, but to get a general feel of what's going on. Time I contributed something, even if it's only my candidacy for the Duffer's Club First session last Sunday. No barbel, two chub, one 4 something, the other 5.03. The bigger one came in a like a sack, no fight at all - worn out from spawning? Eventually went back OK, if a bit lethargic. Hope to get out again this weekend. Richard |
