MB... Those guys are so used to casting into the next county for their fish, noise really isnt a factor for them... give it a couple of weeks (after blanking) and they will all be gone... (As for buzzers on the river..? Why?? Curry sounds good though!

MB Avon, firstly you are right in what you said, but that is fishing these days. Not just carp anglers but fishing anywhere you go. Lets face it that the sport we love and enjoy isn't the same as it used to be. Our favourite swims, pegs and runs have always got someone in and the chavs are getting away with disrespectful activities because it has become so popular. The upside of the increase in anglers (as long as they pay for their licences) is not all bad; we have some great fishing throughout our country whether it is lake, gravel pit or river fishing. The downside is the clunks that are out and about invading our sport and leaving a trail of litter and destruction! I don't think blaming, buzzers, larger and bivvys is the real problem or carping angling is the issue, I think it's idiots who don't appreciate what we have and what they are doing. I enjoy carp fishing as much as any form of fishing (not to hot on a boat tho
Believe me I have fallen out with more people around a lake in reference to noise, drinking excessively and general arsing about than I care to remember. But I'm not going to stop fishing where I want to fish because of some 'flankers' who think they can turn up clunk away and arse with a total lack of respect to other anglers and get away with it! You only have to walk down any high street and see the litter and no-brainers and what they get away with to think fishing should be treated (in there small mines) should be treated any differently. But to keep blaming the carp angler is wrong! There is enough bad feeling towards carp anglers, so make sure we target the right people/clunkers/pi55 heads and chavs and not other anglers just because they fish for carp. I just hope PompeyRob is right and they all disappear sooner rather than later.. Regards, Swizztony |

Paid a visit to the Avon on Sat a/noon and whilst the barbs didn't play ball, the chub were obliging. Also, had a large fish jump near the far bank, put a good bed of pellet down and half hour later had a 11lb Common in the net. Nice when your tactics work.

MB, Pompey Rob and Tony, your spot on in what you say, ive been fishing a swim at Lacock only for one of these numpties to hoarse about 3 kilos of boilies in a swim next to me, "that will be the fish fed for week then". the saving grace is that they do move on within a couple of months. the sooner the better.
tight ones! |

Re: BA | ||

Yeh totally agree with swizz tony, Sorry i didnt mean to sound like its all coming from the carp boys as i enjoyed carping a lot a few years ago myself, its just that it really bugs me that it is so important to look so good on the bank but not actually back it up with knowledge or fish, it seems to me that a lot people dont enjoy fishing no more unless they catch what there after, after all a bite is a bite and a bend in the rod is what its all about, nice to see a few of the lads have had a few surprises tench, carp, pike etc etc.
But swizz tony is right, there's carp anglers and carp idiots and unfortunatley Barbel anglers and Barbel idiots. |

Well, I braved the wind, rain and a rising river this afternoon for a few hours at Lacock and, despite fishing like a total pleb, managed to sneak a lovely 5lber out.
Strangely enough, not many chavs out this evening! |

Finally got to my beloved BA for the first time this season tonight - a prolific, under-fished part of the upper river, well-known to Des and Andy, but very few others!
Fished from 7.20 to 10.10, upstreaming meat in to the slack end of a weir. No monsters, nothing over 7-8lbs in fact, but ten barbel obliged, as did a 12lb linear mirror that sent the 'pin in to meltdown. Happy days, albeit very wet ones... Jon |

Hi All
I would hate to be called a Chav if i had just started Barbel Fishing. But there is to much Bait going in for a small river and we all most keep low to the banks and the noise down. Hopefully people will read are comments and take note. Johngp you realy got the ball rolling on this one but it had to be said. Tight Lines and Happy Barbel Fishing. Nigel PS. hows the levels looking a Lacock Shippo |

I know i'v been spouting off about chavs and carp boys but like manu31999 said you wouldnt like to be called a chav if you have just started barbel fishing,
If you arrived up lacock, didnt have much of a clue on barbel or rivers have only been carp fishing your main experience is going to be all about baiting up and waiting. So perhaps it is down to us more experienced lads to maybe give a bit of a hand to those that are making obvious mistakes; let me explain- Now i dont want people who go carping to get all worked up on me, a lot of carp anglers started fishing there local river, pond, canal and gained experience catching allsorts by all methods, the people im talking about are the ones who have got into fishing through there mate and there mate goes carp fishing so they then go out and buy all the carp tackle and stick with that for a few years, once that old fishing bug is in the blood he then wants to go out and try for somthing else fair enough, Looking through the angling papers he sees braid, hair rigs, pellets, boilies, realtree etc etc all very familar to what he uses now linked to barbel. That angler is then going to turn up on the river bank really wanting to catch a barbel, but what he really needs is some guidence just like his mate gave to him all those years ago when he started carping, if he starts shoving in lots of bait it is simply that he dosnt know what to do. So as i was saying perhaps a guiding hand from one of us might help that person and in turn that will help us all and you never know you might even get a new mate out of it. |

Sometimes these things can be discussed on the banks sometimes people would rather not be told that 6lb is to light or your fishing over a tree in the water, just gotta carry on being polite trying to advise people we all started somewhere I was @#%$ when I started barbel fishing, too much bait all the wrong rigs and the attension span of a goldfish but ive learnt a lot from friends ive gained on the banks...

Having just turned away 2 guys who were fishing Lacock with no licence they seemed genuine and nice, would like to reiterate you cannot buy day tickets on the bank must be bought in advance from the local shop or local tackle dealers cheers clive

Clive,
From what I hear you are doing a great job - a thankless task at times but well done. Used to bailiff for both Bath AA (before it Amalgamated) and more recently the Barbel Society - so appreciate your efforts. Cheers Bob |
