Bloody hell Andy, you've just advertised my secret peg to all the lazy folk who can't be bothered to have a walk!
Joking aside, I Google'd this link last season and had great fun zooming down the river from Dinckley to Preston docks. It's amazing what you spot when you do this and worth a look at. Good luck to all you Ribblers for 2006/7 - 14 days to go and my tackle is ready and waiting! |

My pic is harmless compared to some posts ive read this season! Anyway enough of that.. roll on mid june!! I hope its a good moon day.... |

Hello all, is the Southport AA stretch just past church deeps to the M6 or does it stop. Was looking to join Southport and found out they have a 30 peg stretch, any one a southport member. Cheers and tight lines for the 16th.

It's only the Church Deeps area. You can access over the fence at peg 30 - the downstream end, which is just at the start of the hill down past the church, or you can access at the scout hut which is about peg 11 or 12 if memory serves me.
The stretch stops at peg 1 which is just downstream from the farm. I think the rest from the farm up to Mellings wood is Preston flyfishers or something. I've heard various stories that you can fish the upstream bit to Mellings on day ticket or pay the farmer but I'm fairly sure it's a club controlled stretch now. I used to fish it a lot but have ventured upstream where it's a bit quieter these days. I've had plenty of good silver fish on the stick including cracking roach and chub, and plenty of barbel out of the stretch, as well as the odd pike and carp. It's well worth a look but bloody snaggy in places as well. It's good fun fishing when the tide is running too, I've had barbel when the river has started flowing upstream! |

Yes it's true. One of the RADAC stretches has been lost but I'm not sure who to, the newsletter said the rent was put up to an unreasonable amount and the relationship with the farmer wasn't great. It's a shame as it was a fairly quiet barbel length but the salmon lads loved it, with dozens of big salmon caught over the last couple of seasons. I'd heard that a "hostile bid" was put in last year which forced the club to pay over the odds and they werem't willing to do it again. Wouldn't surprise me if a game club got the length which was at Hothersall. In my view RADAC have done the right thing in not being forced to pay over the odds. If this behaviour continues you would see it become impossible for medium sized clubs to compete with the big clubs and wealthier game clubs, and more stretches of river would be lost for the coarse anglers.
