If you're thinking of trying the BM stretch then you will be well advised to stay well clear of Tutbury. We are so lucky having such far sighted men running the club.

Yeh what's going on Larry? Not that I fish BM Tutbury very often but do sometimes on another card.

The banks will be lined with new members mainly coming from the direction of Stoke since the withdrawl of the 20 mile limit on membership and the publicity of late. Last time I tried up there was a wet Wednesday pm in the middle of February and there were four people already fishing the Willows when I arrived. God only knows how crowded it will be next weekend. My guess is it will look like an Oxfordshire carp lake.

Oh dear Larry, like Twitcher I joined last season and also live outside the twenty mile exclusion zone as does the bloke I fish with. Don't worry when they find out that the Dove is not a fools paradise they will all go back to their carp puddles. I've seen it happen on the Dove time and time again over the years.
I fished all last season and hardly saw another soul on the banks. A lot of people don't like the long walks involved and when they don't catch on the first couple of outings give it up as a bad job. I have fished the Dove for many years and was very pleased to get a BM card and intend to keep it for many years to come. Theres plenty of unfished river for eveyone on the Dove and Trent stretches. It's pretty obvious that the BM needed us foriegners to pay subs so that you local lads wouldn't lose your fishing, so you should welcome us not have a go. The busiest stretches of BM waters seem to be the stillwaters not the river. I fished many virgin untrodden banks on the Dove last year. Bill |

Twitcher - I make it a point not to form strong opinions about people I have never met and it makes no difference to me whether you have been a member for a month or a decade.
Stickleback - The club appears not to need new members to subsidise its current waters but to fund the expansion as it continues to add to its list of waters. Bill - I agree the will be a big drop off in the numbers on the bank after the first few weeks of the season and there are miles of unfished river but there are also long stretches of water with a considerably reduced chance of a decent barbel. I too would snap up the chance of a BM ticket had it been previously denied too me, and the club will always take your money but it will not spend it on new stretches of the Dove. |

Re: Dove | ||

There are no 'new stretches' of the Dove for them to spend there money on.
Most is tied up by BM, DVAA, DRAC, PAAS and a few smaller clubs or big clubs with small stretches of river... I do not see any of them giving up their water. Cahal |

Re: Dove | ||

They wouldn't need new stretches even if there were any. How many anglers do you see on the banks when you go fishing? I'll lay odds not many. Unless anglers specialise they tend not to fish rivers very often. Same goes for the Trent.
There are so many miles of unfished river or should I say rarely fished river out there that anyone fishing BM water should not get in each others way. The reason it was opened up was the drop off in membership. Common business sense if your paying for something and your locals won't buy into it go further afield. Locals may not like it but the club has to survive. Paul |

Re: Dove | ||

Quite right Paul.
Interestingly...when I first moved to Derby in 1982 I applied to join BMAA but was denied because, at that time, they operated a 10 mile radius rule. Derby is a big city and was just outside the 10 miles. Eventually BMAA changed the rule to a 20 mile radius to include Derby and a couple of other biggish places. By then I then had moved from Derby and was outside the radius again. I bet some members must have complained when the 10 mile radius was changed What is also interesting is that most of the anglers who have caught the big barbel on the BMAA water (and publicised them) lived well outside the 20 mile radius anyway and they had managed to gain membership despite this. Re: Dove | ||

Larry I left a Stoke club because it was run for the benefit of the carp angling fraternity to the detriment of the river anglers. Waters on the Severn were dropped and all the money was spent on new carp waters.
I don't have my rule book to hand but isn't there a rule which says no publicity without first clearing it with the committee? Running any organisation by committee is never an easy thing and you are never going to please everyone. As a Stoke member i was upset a few years ago when DRAC got a prime stretch of Dove water at Scropton which I had fished for years on a Stoke ticket, but I didn't complain about it I just joined DRAC and binned the Stoke ticket. It was cheaper as well. One day when I retire I'm gonna get a Dove Valley ticket and when I win the lottery i shal invest in a Prince Albert ticket too Bill |

Hey Bill, last time I checked, DVAA wasnt much cheaper than PAAS. Know which club I'd join, especially if I already had a Burton and Derby card

Re: DVAA or PAAS | ||

Neil you forget that I have a long running love affair with the Dove so Prince Albert will have to wait as they haven't got that much water on it and I'll need to win the lottery so I can afford to travel to all the far away places on the Prince Albert card.
Bet your twitching is in for a pasting with a sprog on the way? Hope you will let us all know when the babe is born. Bill |

Whoaaa. It sounds like its all about to go go off whith all this politics talk I'm glad my message alerter wasn't working. I too have a new ticket for this year DRAC went for a look round last week didn't see a soul but parking behind your peg talk about luxury. Took a look at my old favourites down at Doveridge now there's a walk or should I say run as last year the cows took to chasing you when you crossed their field still it keeps you fit. Anyhow good luck & tight lines to everyone reguards
