Re: River Mole | ||

I am just posting because I get fed up with the Mole being on page 2 of the reports.
Anyone been out walking? Done one day around the Betchworth area, looks promising, probably fish there more than the North bank this year, who owns it? Wouldn't want to break any rules Only two weeks away from the annual holiday, off to the Wye, can't wait. You never know I might even be able to say what I have caught and post a picture. |

Any of the Mole fishermen belong to a local Barbel Society, or is there one?
If there isn't one, maybe we could start one up, if there are not enough enquiries we could ask the Thames regulars or just make it a Surrey society. Anyone interested? |

Hello Mole
We're not all dead! I had a walk at Burford Bridge and Norbury Park on Saturday, the water was very low and about as clear as the Mole ever gets down there. Didn't see much Barbel activity but plenty of Chub though and some a decent size. Looking forward to the start of the season and having some sport. I've got a few days booked on the Teme for the 2nd week of the season so will probably get there before the Mole. I'm interested in the Betchworth stretch myself, walked the dog there many a time but never fished it as i don't know who controls it. The local Barbel Soc sounds good and I'd be interested. |

You're too late Tony, I had a meeting the other day, and I am Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, treasurer and fund raiser. Try again next year.

Blackballed without so much as an interview! Maybe I should take the Graucho Marx attitude and not want to be a member of any club that will take me?

Has anybody else strolled the banks recently?
Can Dorking members discuss pre-season activity or is this also covered by the no publicity ban? |

Re: River Mole | ||

I've walked a few stretches the last couple of weeks, and yes it is low, but todays rain might help for tomorrow. Pity I can't go until next week.
Good luck to all Molers for the coming season. |

Re: River Mole | ||

I think it's worth pointing out that the Mole fish being caught are taking a lot more effort than usual to go back after capture. One angler was up to his waist for 20 minutes supporting a fish last night, I too have had problems with two separate fish in the last week.
They seem to respond once in faster water, so please all take care, Im sure you all are, but the trouble I've had putting fishing back lately has taken the gloss of their captures somewhat. Tight lines. |

I must reitterate Mr Fairweather's sentiments. Had a good fish last week and had to hold it for 25 mins before it regained its energy. Almost makes you not want to catch them when that happens. And for the purists out there, I was using gear up to the job and landed the fish as quickly as could be expected.
Combination of low oxygen levels and recent spawning activity seems to really have taken it out of them. |

You should take a leaf out of my book.
I don't catch them! |

Fished the mole today from 19.00-21.00, caught a 5lb barbel and had no trouble putting it back in, it swam right out of my hands.

Matt,
Lucky you, I know of one angler who also had fish swim out of their hands, and seemingly return with no problem, only for it to float past 30 seconds later, he then spent 20 minutes up to his waist, in his pants, (not a pretty sight) supporting it until it went back properly. Rain is due to arrive within 24 hours, so the problem may resolve itself. Jon |

Jon, it looks like our area may miss the rain Friday night that was forecast.
Shame that,as it's very much needed. But can metcheck be trusted?Do I take my brolly with me tommorow night? Jason "The Beer and Bath Man"

Re: River Mole | ||

Jon,
Spot on with your comments regarding the safe return of fish. It might be me that you were referring to, but on Tuesday afternoon I caught a barbel that certainly appeared as if it had just spawned - damaged sides & very hollow. Held it in faster water a few swims down but took a lot of time to recover - eventually swimming off strongly in slacker water. Carp were also still spawning in the shallows when I arrived. Not happy about it - might leave it for a couple of weeks. |

Hi Mole, I think that section you are talking about is the Brockham angling soc. section for details go in to Fullers in Dorking and Andrew will put you on the right track. It is a very small club though with only about 140 members and they are very selective who they let in

Re: River Mole | ||

Out on the Mole today, got into my favourite swim, the weir pool. This swim has what we call a beach, where you fish from.
It is a one angler swim, unless you allow a friend to fish with you. I started catching, for the first 3 hours great, then 2 young men around 21, there wives/girlfriends, there 4 kids and the kids nan, decide to sit less than 5 yards to my right. Out come two 6ft rods with pike bungs on and the two lads start casting, the kids start screaming and the women start shouting at the kids to f****** behave or we will go home. They couldn't cast the rods far so decided to wade out to their waists and cast from there. Then 6 girls turned up and started diving off the bridge, screaming and splashing around. Did I say anything, yes GOODBYE! Where are the baliffs when you need one? |
