Malcolm, well at least you'll have one reader. I do like to keep up to date with the Medway. Let me know if you fancy a guest ticket swap onto the Wey. I haven't Fished Fordcombe for years.

I managed to bunk off work for a few hours on Monday (9/9). Started off at Ashurst weir, the last time I fished here was the first day of the start of the big floods a couple of seasons ago. I thought I stepped back in time as it was hammering down with rain and in a couple of hours the water level came up 6 inches. Managed to winkle out a hard fighting barbel of 7Ib 10oz.

Nice one Malcolm. I really must have a walk down there sometime. Its been ages since I saw the place. I like the bunk off work phrase...it really sums up that feeling of just having to get some hours in. Topped by a Medway Boris as well. I don't think most people realise that Medway barbel are, as they say, like rocking horse do-dos. The repeat record fish of the past gave many the impression that the river was chocker with fish. Not so as I know........Now all you need is to find those Stour beauties.............oh and somewhere where you can actually fish for them would help.......

Hope you can help. (you may have seen the appeal on the messages section)
I am setting up an internet directory hopefully of all clubs in the UK that offer barbel fishing. This will be free to anglers and fishing clubs. The aims of the sight are to help attract fishermen back on to rivers, help clubs attract new members and increase revenue through day tickets as well as enabling anyone wanting to fish a new river to find all the relevant information including in time accomodation and tackle shops. I have the blessing of BFW to post this appeal for help as we all think the two sites will compliment each other very well. Where you can help is with information of any clubs/day ticket/free/syndicate waters you fish. All I need is a Club name and contact number or website address and I will do all the work from there. I realise some may not want to pass on information for fear of their waters suddenly getting inundated with fisherman but I really dont think that will happen. The site will be www.barbelfishinguk.com and should be online in a basic form from next week and then go live fully in Mid May. If you visit the site during this period please be patient with us as we construct the site and gather information. I am sure when completed it will provide a very useful source of information to anyone wanting to catch barbel. Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you. If you wish to email me either use the link in my profile or email me on barbelfishinguk@aol.com Thanks again Tony Farmer |
