Fished East Bridgeford 4am till 8am (plus a couple of hours spinning) 1 rod on maggot feeder, the other straight running ledger alternating flavoured meat and lobworm.
river was up slightly but steady and clear. Spent all morning trying to feed off a huge shoal of gudgeon that were hammering ther feeder rod as soon as it touched down. It was a gudgeon nightmare that saw me taking one every couple of minutes until I packed up, baitless, 4 hours later. I hoped bigger fish would push them off the feed or pike would show up...but it never happened. The shoal must have been COLOSSAL. (june16 by the way) a barbel in the hand is worth a dip in the in the Sploosh

18th june - East Bridgford again, fished 7-10:30 pm, River had dropped a few inches and was running very clear and steady under a bright blue sky. Not a very successful visit really, took a small pike with a plug just after i started when i saw it chasing fry, the rest of the evening sat watching two rods, one on flavoured meat, the other lobworm - a few twitches from bits pecking the bait but not a single bite -too clear i guess
a barbel in the hand is worth a dip in the in the Sploosh

I'm going down to Nottingham for a couple of days in August and thought I might have a go at the Trent. Any recommendations for good Barbel stretches (day ticket) would be greatly appreciated, along with any hints/tips.

Fished the Trent in Newark (Bob's Island) on Saturday - one two pound chub and a few knocks. The river was a bit high but we were still a bit disappointed not to get a barbel.
Yesterday we fished below Beeston Weir for a couple of hours but river was steaming along and it was very hard to fish. Then we had a go at East Stoke in the evening (barbel were supposed to be coming out all day during a match) but no action to report. So we both failed to get a Trent barbel, but it was an interesting weekend and we'll definitely have another go sometime. |

Visited the in-laws again this weekend and decided to pack the rods - glad I did. Fished the tidal Friday night and had several snotties to 6lb, a 15lb common carp which fought like a tiger (beautiful fish) and a 12lb 1oz barbel which nearly pulled my arm out of its socket (what a fish). What a great night on a magnificent river and hardly another angler in sight. Fished Saturday night in the same area and was plagued by snotties and nothing else. A happy man.

Fished Friday night on the Tidal 6pm to 12 for one fish of between 6-7lb. River up a bit and carrying colour, 49f, not much litter coming down. Looked good but I wasn't sorry to leave at 12 because it was blowing a hooligan, nearly lost my hair piece. Have been meaning to upgrade the "piece" for ages but unfortunately I never seem to spot any in my local tackle shop and that's just about the only shop I go into these days. Do Daiwa or Harrison do a decent storm piece ?
Also fished Satuday night same hours, but in much calmer conditions for nothing. Not even a bite and no fish seen rolling/moving. River seemed to be lifeless. Still I was in beautiful surroundings with 4 delicious dairylea sandwiches all to myself, what more can a man ask for ? A storm has now hit the area so I'm staying indoors with the missus. Love the big river. Nick C |

Big Mike
There's no doubt about it, 15yrs darn sarf has turned me into a right woofter. Gone are the days when I used to go straight from the football pitch on a freezing January afternoon to the riverbank, still in my kit (I was always skins), with nought but the leftover oranges and the odd icicle to eat. These days I'm a thermal layered, double duvet, pocket warmer type of handbag mirror carrying poof. Heard you were on the Kennet the other day with a lump of monster Ray Wilkins on yer hook. It's not easy walking back to the car in the dark sideways is it ? Leave that stinking stuff alone. Would have liked to have met up. Give me a bell next time, and next time I'm up on the Trent I'll do likewise. Keep eating. Nick C |

Martin,
I offered before on the Ure thread, but will do so again, if you want transport from Harrogate just drop me a mail, I haven't fished the Trent much this season, but often go down to the Dove (as well as local rivers) and would like to spend some time on the Trent and a bit of company would be good and it'd help spread the petrol cost. I do tend to be limited to Saturdays mainly though. ptilly@dotcomimaging.com cheers, Paul. |

Fished trent Friday, river out of its banks but not much debrie coming down. Hit a fish first cast but it broke me amongst the rocks. Its difficult when your sat 25 feet back from the main river. No one else there, no one else stupid enough. Will be back on sunday when it should have dropped a bit.
