You might want to re-consider the Shefford and Vauxhall sections on the Great Ouse depending on where in the county you live. I believe AT mentioned the Ivel recently.

I have not spent too much time fishing the Ivel as it is as far to the Ouse as Biggleswade so I go there.
Apologies to those that fish there but if I were you go downstream of the mechano bridge in Biggleswade until you see willow tree's on the far bank just before the river splits for the island. Cast just over halfway or to the far bank and you'll be in with a chance. Failing that if you are interested in Vauxhall waters drop me a mail as I have been fishing there on and off for 7 - 8 years so know a few areas Cheers

Theres a match report on the Ivel champs in this weeks Anglers Mail and it mentions a 10lb'er caught at Blunham (just above Andy's Mechano bridge)

Dominic, you'll find Blunham is actually down stream of Sandy and Mechano Bridge is at Biggleswade, upstream of Sandy.
There have been Barbel stocked from, Henlow down to Blunham. |

Chris,
Maybe Meccano bridges are some kind of holding area 'cos according to A.M. this fish was caught 'on the Back Meadow (Blunham) above Meccano Bridge'. Perhaps if they stuck a few more on the Ouse i'd catch more! |

I'll have a word with a guy or two, who fish the river and try to dig this one up.

Hope you can help. (you may have seen the appeal on the messages section)
I am setting up an internet directory hopefully of all clubs in the UK that offer barbel fishing. This will be free to anglers and fishing clubs. The aims of the sight are to help attract fishermen back on to rivers, help clubs attract new members and increase revenue through day tickets as well as enabling anyone wanting to fish a new river to find all the relevant information including in time accomodation and tackle shops. I have the blessing of BFW to post this appeal for help as we all think the two sites will compliment each other very well. Where you can help is with information of any clubs/day ticket/free/syndicate waters you fish. All I need is a Club name and contact number or website address and I will do all the work from there. I realise some may not want to pass on information for fear of their waters suddenly getting inundated with fisherman but I really dont think that will happen. The site will be www.barbelfishinguk.com and should be online in a basic form from next week and then go live fully in Mid May. If you visit the site during this period please be patient with us as we construct the site and gather information. I am sure when completed it will provide a very useful source of information to anyone wanting to catch barbel. Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you. If you wish to email me either use the link in my profile or email me on barbelfishinguk@aol.com Thanks again Tony Farmer |
