I bailliff, and fish three different stretches below worcester, and will post regular info on what is happening down this way.please post your own comments,as regarding catches etc. i sure we can all help each other catch more fish and gather facts for des taylors crusade on improving the river. at the moment the fishing is slow, but we may have a chance this weekend

Has the rain taken effect yet Chris?
I'm on there tomorrow, so I'll post on the conditions. The Severn below Worcester? It sounds like the Ouse 'above' Bedford. |

Hi Chris
I'm keen to add to this as I fish mainly on the Severn between Bridgnorth and Bewdley ( and also there seems to be none of the politics on this section which seems to have encroached on other boards!! ) . Whilst I hear that the river has been slow this season I cannot complain. Most of my fishing has been during the early evening ( and night where allowed ). Big Big Big chunks of meat seem to be the order of the day although maggot and feeder can also do the trick ( albeit with the odd eel creeping in! ). It seems that most anglers who are suffering seem to be the ones who fish during the day - on many occasion they are leaving just when we are arriving. River levels have been quite low during the summer months ( they could also do with some water now). We are planning to fish the lower Severn during the next few weeks - could you suggest some suitable stretches which also allow night fishing? We are off tomorrow to look at stretches between Worcester and Tewksbury with a view of fishing there on Sunday. |

Below Worcester this evening.
Water temp at 41F(5C) and the river is low and clear. Driving rain and a big wind in the face was pleasant..... One bite which I put down to chub, but I did meet Chris Ponsford and we all had a good chat and then went for a pint. |

Hi Everyone.great to see interest in the Severn,I love the river, and is not finished, despite what some people would have you believe. Sure we have plenty of death sessions as Stef Horak calls them, but also have some fantastic ones, and on here you just don't know what the next bite will bring.....such is the buzz that this mighty rivercan provide. Lovely to meet BIG RIK,and friends on Friday, great company and excellent anglers, look forward to exchanging more ideas again soon. ..Evening Rob,Regarding Night fishing, the only legal stretches our those controlled by the Barbel Society, namely Beauchamp Court and Hill House. However plenty of fish can be caught during the day if conditions are right,at the moment things are hard ,but it can all change fast. The Big meat approach was pioneered down here by Lawrence Breakespeare, and very successful it was too. Recently the Pellets and Boilies seem to have taken over, but Iknow ,good old Trunch is still catching plenty. What has happened to my old mate LOL? Anyone know? I shall be out sunday, adopting a maggot approach,I think there is a chance of a couple of barbel. ever optimistic ...chris

Hi Chris - I'm also having a crack tomorrow - but shall be using my favorite Bacon Grill and Garlic Sausage. I shall probably fish on the free water at Arley as I'm fishing late and you're ok there.
Went down to have a look at Ripple this morning as I'm keen to try the lower sections. Water seemed quite low for the winter but I assume it will be rising tomorrow after the recent rain on Thursday and last night. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Environment agency pegs ( compared to the BAA they were brilliant ). I phoned the agency earlier this week to see if night fishing was allowed and after they checked and returned my call told me it was - however when I got there this morning I found 3 'no night fishing' signs so I'll call again next week to clarify the situation. Good luck for tomorrow and I catch up again and let you know how I got on. Rob |

Anyone been out today? Iwent on a long walk venue,West Diglis ,on the Worcester tic ket, took a young lad down with me,ended up carrying half his blooming gear as well as my own,he claimed he was feeling sick.....he,had to stop for a break, was not used to walking to a peg, carp puddle man.
I learnt one thing today,dont....dont..buy cheap brollies - in the gale force wind and rain this morning ,even secured by guy ropes the blooming thing went walkabout within about 10 mins. inside out. As to the fishing, water was slowly rising , ideal I thought ,and the chub were playing ball on the maggots but alas no barbel, though my chum did catch one about a pound . Thoroughly enjoyed myself in the wild weather. Good chance to catch old whiskers this week I think if a bit more water comes in as promised. I shall be out trying in the evening,on B/Soc waters at Beauchamp Court, which has fished very well this year, and has produced some right monsters. Ever Optimistic .Chris |

Good to see a Severn thread started. Thought I was alone here.
I blanked last Monday just below Bewdley bypass bridge on Kidderminster AA water ,( bloody cold ); got one chub Friday on other bank on DAS water, ( temp 6c). It's turned mild in the last 24 hours, albeit windy, so will be back on DAS section tomorrow for ( hopefully ) barbel. Will report. Hello Rik, your recipe for vitalin groundbait balls has been very helpful, and will see use again tomorrow. Ok, maybe misuse. |

Chris,
Nice to see a Severn report added, lets see if it can run and run. I fished last Tuesday at Kempsey on the Kinver Freeliners water opposite the Barbel Society bank, too cold and clear but the chub were having a go.However from about 2pm I had an oil slick about 12' wide coming down the river on my side.It smelt like fuel oil and the fumes were so bad I had a headache by the time I packed up at about 5.30pm. I did report it to the E.A. they phoned me back about 2hrs later saying they would get someone to look at it. By the way our water can also be night fished on a special permit. Went across the Severn at Holtfleet yesterday on the way to the Teme but it was still as clear as tap water as was the Teme. Terry. |
