I got some of this free when I bought fly gear mailorder. Its a little stiff but other than that works fine. I used 8lb BS for stocked rainbows without any breaks so far. Regards Monkey |

John, I use it all the time as tippet material when fly fishing and have used it regularly for hook links for tench, I only have 4, 5 and 6lb BS though so have not used it for barbel, it is good fluoro though....

Ian, i have been using the ox fluro in 12lb bs, i cannot source this ox anymore but found some platinum in 10lb bs it is a lot finer in diameter than the old ox and is a` lot more supple, i was hoping some of you game fishing guys would know a bit about it, so far 10lb is the highest i can find in an Airflo fluro, anyone know of a higher bs from same source please?....j.w

thisisjohn, looked on the Airflow website and from the look of things 10lb is the highest bs on a 100m spool, the 12lb and 15lb bs are both in 50m spools. Take a look but hope this helps a bit.

Hiya jw,
Hope the health is good? Like others I bought it for a fly leader (in 4 and 8lb). Has coped well with hardfighting brownies up to 3lb (in 4lb) and seems good. The one thing I find is when you tie a knot it does seem to suffer some compression ie it leaves the line curly once you tighten and that is with using plenty of lube as it is tightened. Has not to date effected performance, but does leave one a little wary for barbel use. Is thin and supple. I bought it after seeing a review in a trout mag where it came out tops for value and strength. May be able to dig it out for you if you would like to read it yourself - let me know? Chris |

Fluoro | ||

JW,
Given that Coarse angling is way behind fly fishing with regards to leader/hooklength material it is worth having a look at Seaguar Ace Hard fluoro. The strongest per diameter stuff around. Advertised as popular for the salmon in the wilds of Russia you can see why. Not bad in the wilds of Worcestershire either. The 8 1/2 lb stuff is like a normal 4lb fluoro and brilliant for delicate work. The 20lb plus stuff looks like normal 12lb fluoro. I'm not a tackle tart by nature, but this stuff is worth looking at. Not cheap, but worth it. |

Hi John,
Try here: Seaguar fluoro Then click on the catalogue, then go to backing and tippet material. The 19lb stuff held on to this monster in a weir pool. Teith 41lber Biggest salmon in scotland last year I think. |

Re: Airflo fluro | ||

Hi Chris, curly ends ect,
a lot of guys dont realise that with most mono lines but especially fluro ones if you pull the stuff through your fing and thumb it warms up slightly and softens up very noticeably this in turn can help stop the curly bit with knots ect...j.w |

Hello John,
I have used the Airflo G3 third generation (blue label) for a number of years now as hooklengths and as mainline. It is by far the best Flourocarbon I have used. The only down side is the 50m spools in 12 and 15lb. As I only fish small rivers this isn't a problem for me. Regards Simon |
