the meatballs can come in a varying amount of flavours, if i was to guess use garlic and curry powder a true winner
tho the gravy off the cambells ones pulls well |

Found that most if not all meatballs work. Some are softer than others, the ones in tomato type sauces tend to be tougher. Own brands such as Tesco, Asda etc contain chicken and generally tend to be tougher and cheap - barbel love them.
I've tried loads of coatings and glugs. Lots of possibilities from Supermarket shelves and fairly reasonable prices. Past favourites have been: Powders and seasonings: Garam Masala Tikka Masala Cajun Paprika and Chilli Robin Red Garlic Liquids and Goos Blue Dragon Thai Fish Sauce - water soluble and very good. Esp winter. Salmon Oil Marmite and Bovril Others: Chilli powder Trout Pellet Powder - meatballs stored in this take on a fishy pellety pong. Parmesan Cheese - partially melted on by microwave. There are countless others, including 'fishing' flavours - some very effective ones being Monster Crab, the old RH Tikka, RH Secret Agent (most persitent smell almost ever!) and many others. More recently The Source liquid is pretty good - not surprising as this probably contains at least two of the previously mentioned 'type' products. If you want your coating to 'hang on' that bit longer then experiment with using powdered milk as a precoating on a damp meatball. Hope this helps, Cheers Bob |

The most successful meatball angler that I know at this time washes all the goo completely off his meatballs.
There isn't an easy way of saying this without fear of deletion, but it would appear that completely clean balls are the order of the day! As with all things there is a method which this guy employs and he is exceptionally good at it, catching upwards of twenty doubles in a season. Without a doubt still one of the top baits out there. |

If you tip the whole tin into a course seive and then gently run warm water over them it will remove the 'goo', you can then place them in the oven on a low heat to toughen up the skin. You can also leave them out in the sun as agian this will toughen up the skin. If you are not casting any real distance then i dont feel toughening the skins up is necessary. I believe Enterprise Tackle make a little device to retain the softer meat ball on the hook/hair which while a little fiddley works very well.
I have used them in the past straight out of the tin and had some very good results on the Wye. I have also in the past tipped a whole tin into some brown crumb and mixed them in to make a really meaty ground bait to mould around the lead, this again has worked very well. Any flavour works resonabley well, i tend to tip them in a frezzer bag with a little of the chossen flaovour and then do the frezzer thing with them and let the thawing proccess draw the flavour into the meatballs. |

Robert,
The debate as to whether one should wash ones balls or not has always been a hot topic of conversation down here in Deb'n, and I must say that opinions are sharply divided on the matter. One school of thought is that clean balls will always get you more bites while others swear by leaving them "au naturale" and some even go so far as to leave them in the warm to "go off" a bit. At the end of the day does it really matter; as long as you are getting your string pulled. Love Tinca |

Try Ikea Deli, they sell Meatballs that have no sauce on them at all, they are about as big as a large Boilie, and come in a plastic bag containing about 30 or so, and are frozen to ensure freshness, they will be fine for what you want...they take on flavours very well, and are the only ones I have managed to source (if you will pardon the pun ) , and are firm enough for hair rigging.....they dont taste too bad in a home made sauce with spaghetti either.
You may also be able to get some Danish build it yourself bankside equipment such as a cupboard to store the glugged bait in , o |

Thanks for the tipTitus.
Since I left the missus I find myself in need of a good backscratcher. Nearest Ikea is miles away tho. Bill |

Leave the gravy/sauce on the meatballs it adds to its attraction.
I know its messy but its worth the extra attraction. Steve. |
