Posts: 232 (30/07/07 11:24) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi, I'm new to this site but not to fishing, As a partially retired (can't stand carp puddles) match fisherman in central Cambridgeshire i have decided to start chasing something worthy of my skills......so its Chub & barbel for me now..... But what i'd really like to know is the following.... Does anybody know if Drennan/Daiwa push fit quivertips will fit into the Greys prodigy rods? I have asked Greys but they wouldn't comment. If they do fit then i'll probably buy the Greys rod, if not then i will probably go for a Drennan specialist Barbel, unless anyone has any better ideas? has anyone tried using the Daiwa 1113's with any success? Hope you have some ideas...

As a hamfisted idiot I have broken a few tips. Greys quote £18.99 + postage each so if you can find viable replacements i would be very interested to know. Thanks Phil

Posts: 341 (30/07/07 13:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I use the Greys rods, Prodigy and X Flite, and to be honest i find it better to use the normal rod tips not the quiver. I first thought the quivers would give me a better bite indication. But at the end of the day, if a Barbel takes your bait, its going to bend it round anyway. You will sit watching the quivers bend and tap, and if you have a lot of movement on your tip, there is a good chance your bait is moving also. So for better bait presentation i prefer the more stable river tip. You will soon know when you get a proper bite. Michael

According to the lovely people at Leslies of Luton. all of the range of Drennan tips, (and thus also Daiwa tips) WILL fit the ENTIRE range of Greys Rods, so if you do get that hamfisted feeling and you break one, you now can get a new tip almost exactly as you wish...fast or slow taper, white or any colour... Know which rod i will be going for now....especially as all my collection of quivertips will fit it... Thanks Leslies.......Maybe i should tell Greys?

Most decent tackle shops stock the Drennan tips, they are about £10-12 depending on which tip you buy. Also dont forget about the taper of the tip, a soft slow taper tip can make a rod feel horrible and "floppy" if its not designed to use that type of tip, but a fast taper tip can "stiffen" up a rod and provide some extra sensitivity as well, so don't discount the Drennan DRX tips, Daiwa tips are good also but dont have the T/C stencilled on them, I have about a dozen various tips for my feeder rods which will fit all of my Barbel rods....i'm sure i will have to spend time experimenting until i find a happy marriage....

I have just upgraded to the Fox 15 foot 2.75 tc rods and have found them a real boon in these recent conditions when throwing a feeder out that weighs between 5 - 9oz! which can be called for to hold station at one third to mid-river on the Trent. best regards Lee

Posts: 196 (30/07/07 21:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I have the greys prodigy specialist which i bought on the advice of some of the guys here. it doesn't have a quiver, but i watched the 1.75 tip bouncing happily as a 1lb chub destroyed a spam bait bit by bit. this was on a relatively fast stretch of river which required 3-4oz to hold bottom. by resting my hand on the butt (a favoured occupation of mine, sorry m'lord) and looping my finger around the line, i can feel even the lightest of touches on the bait, albeit at relatively short range. this is with standard mono: I'd imagine braid would make it even more sensitive. that is certainly my next stop. as has been said, we're not dealing with shy-biting roach on size 20's, but a bewhiskered torpedo. can't imagine a situation when I envisage needing a quiver, or even my 1.25 top, come to that. regards dan
