Do you think we should have a closed season? |

Do you think we should keep or closed season? Have it at a different time? Or scrap it completely?

at the outbreak of mass insanity going on at present on these boards, at grown men suddenly acting like kids on Christmas Eve at the prospect of Christmas morning...
The close season MUST be kept, if only for this reason. |

Think we have loads of historical threads on this one chaps. A well trodden discussion path.

Bin it. It would stop close season poaching at a stroke and take concentrated pressure of fish in the middle of June.

i like the closed season on rivers (forces me to do other things) but its poorly policed (unless its a salmon/sea-trout river) and in the past when it was a total ban* i used to fish for eels on the trent & trout on the derwent * in accordance with the local bylaws.but stopped when they changed the rules and switched to pools/canals in the closed seasons.
with the amount of anglers on the banks during the closed season (totally ignoring the bylaws) maybe it is time for a change. a switch to local closed seasons by owners/clubs discretion and the installation of (policed) exclusion zones around breading/swarming area's is more in order in the 21st century these pockets /safe havens would be easier to police than miles upon miles of river banks plus much heavier fines to discourage contravening the laws / bylaws should be unified and changed accordingly . steve

Run it from the start of April to June 16th and give public floggings to all that flaunt it.

Chavender,
"a switch to local closed seasons by owners/clubs discretion and the installation of (policed) exclusion zones around breading/swarming area's is more in order in the 21st century these pockets /safe havens would be easier to police than miles upon miles of river banks plus much heavier fines to discourage contravening the laws / bylaws should be unified and changed accordingly ." Im afraid i dont a agree with ur comment, for one reason the owner/club does not own the fish in the river and therefore does not have a fininical interest in the actual fish but in the fishing and therefore they should they care if they loose out on several 100,000's of fry as long as they make money this year. Also the fish need to be protect on there way to the spawning ground so only having certain "closed" sections would be pointless. I beg the question how many club/owners actual know enough about fish to ensure future recruintment and the welfare of the fish? The only thing i do agree with ya is that the fines should be much bigger. ------

Just think of the 10s of 1000's of words that would be lost on furum boards like this if there was no close season
Strange, we never seem to get the game anglers wanting to get rid of their river close season Tight Lines, Wearyone

I'm not worried about, you can fry it for all I care. However, ALL salmon, now, if Angling sanity is to prevail in not-too-distant future, MUST be poached (in front of their "owners", preferably).

Definitely keep it - if only to upset the committee of the BAA.
