Nigel,
buy some X-line or P-line,IQ is too stiff IMO. |

Im more inclined to go with 'clear' mono as its cheaper, but suffix invisiline is a nice fluoro i use for carp/tench h/ls or leaders.

The fluff flingers seem to be raving about copolymer lines (sp?). I'm not sure what it is or where it sits between fluro and mono. Anyone had any experience of using it for fly or course fishing?
I tried some Wychwood fluro whilst trout fishing t'other day in 6lb and was impressed, mind you, I did blank. Cheers, Andy F |

Ive never had any problems with 10lb IQ as a hooklength, it is in my opinion 100% reliable when used with a palomar and come to think of it, ive never had a problem with the knotless knot when using it either. I bought some IQ Soft at the beginning of last season, but never got to fish rivers low or clear enough to warrant using it. In my opinion most fluorocarbons such as IQ and Illusion, offer better abrasion resistance than standard monos or copolymers, they are certainly stiffer with a harder coating. They are also much heavier and as a hooklength will sit on the riverbed better than mono.
Andy,i think but dont quote me. Copolymers are the next stage on from monofilament. I think they use a combination of polymers (rather than one) to acheive better abrasion resistance, lower diameters, increased knot strength etc. I may be wrong;it has been known. Wurzel |

Hi all,
Drennan Fly Leader or ESP, I believe they are one and the same........Never let me down. Not a fan of Braided hooklengths, just don't feel confident using them and my catch rate is much higher using Fluro. Cheers Paul M...... |

Fluoro, any fluoro, | ||

except the Seaguar saltwater rope: truly excellent, in my opinion - for fish of less than three pounds, that don't fight (or only fight high in the water), that don't live anywhere near such uncommon and unsporting stuff as rocks, submerged branches, discarded car doors, drums and tin cans...
Yes, a truly excellent material that I'll get around to using once again after I've called the men in white coats round to give me frontal lobotomy. |

Bass pro excel is a co-polymer line and a very good one as well.

Does the drennan fly leader have good abrasion resistance?
I'm looking for a change and do not have any confidence in braid when rivers are low and clear. Cheers Jason |

I use it on the Teme without a problem.

Re: Fluoro, any fluoro, | ||

korda hybrid, flouro coated braid, been there done that, it doesn't strip easy at all and is prone to damage if not done correctly, sticks out like a sore thumb on the rivers bed, on the rivers I fish anyway and as has been said before, fluro isn't a cloak of invisibility, you can still see the braid it is only the coating that is supposed to be invisible. I can see any fluro in the water, so I reason that if I can see it so can the fish, as for it being more abrasion resistant I've never found that to be true either. Ultimately if you have confidence that it has improved your catch rate, then in some ways it may well have done so but I doubt it has anything to do with it being invisible, also if a fish can see your line then it sure as hell can see your hook, beads, swivels, lead, etc.

Drennan fly leader for me. However I have found you need to make sure you tighten a knotless knot well, as they can spring loose. One reason I prefer fluoro is that it is very easy to see if it has been damaged. In fact I have found braid to be a less reliable material. Probably my fault, as I change flouro links with any suspicion, but find it difficult to assess the condition of a thin braid hooklink. cheers Paul |

nashsoft link is superb, however i am changing to IQ soft because they do not do the soft link in anything lower than 12lb

I used Krystonite for part of last season. Didn't let me down, but I don't think it got me any more bites than I'd been getting on ESP Carp Mono hooklengths.

Thanks All
Some great reply and a lot of different makes too. But to me it just shows a lot of you like useing it and i will carry on when fishing clear water. May get some X-Line or P-Line and try as it has some very good reveiws and sounds a little more supple is this true. Tight Lines and Happy Barbel Fishing.Nigel (For the new season) |
