What do you c'pin guys think; £150 that could be better spent when I already have a Sheffield or a good upgrade? Maybe the £150 should be spent on a different make of reel?

Okuma Kennet... |

Any thoughts on this black beastie? I notice that its basically a Sheffield with an additional line guard and black instead of silver.

Pile of poo, the Kennet, in my opinion. Far better that you get either a Sheffield for trotting, or an Aventa Pro for both float-work plus some lighter legering. Both excellent. Or get yourself a Crouch-type wider drum Aerial solely for legering. Wouldn't use a Kennet even if I was given one.

Agree with Paul, and the way it is designed you couldn't bat the reel anyway, assuming that is your preference.

I have had look at the Kennet, and it seems like a nice bit of kit. The line guard/cage would make it next to useless for Wallis casting. Well that's my opinion.

There lies my "beef" about the Kennet, probably (plus the fact that, as a reel, it's neither chalk nor cheese, especially in light of its excellent predecessors).
If I wanted an excellent, caged, free-running pin, now, I'd be looking at a fine-condition Rapidex, Flick 'em or even Trudex - at about half the cost ... from Ebay or Graham Peplow... |

I think that you can't beat a Swallow or the Adcock Stanton for Wallis casting centre pins. Although having said that if only they were four inch!

Thank for info guys, wont bother with it then. I thought it was too much money anyway.
Paul4, I don't bat the reel, I have taken to using my Sheffield for margin fishing for carp with a 1.5TC Avon rod, a little 5lb carp on that gear gives the WOW factor! Can't wait for the season to start so I can use it properly and catch some wild fish |

I think you can get them for £130.
(Handcrafted Feeders for sale, made to your specifications. Have a look in BFW fishing classifieds.)
