Don't work mate, but I have had success using the Bloodworm one's from Powerbait I think as a disguise for the hook, at least they worked for me.

They do work Robbie,i use them when minnows ,crayfish ect are a problem and i have caught plenty of barbel on them, i have even caught using them without the real thing and have every confidence in them.
They are bouyant and i use a small shot on the hair beween the bend of the hook and the caster, then they are not wafting around unaturally. i141.photobucket.com/albu...nettes.jpg |

Re: Enterprise casters

Has anyone tried making their own? I was thinking of whittling some from a red plastic cork which was in a bottle of wine I was given.
I have used, (and caught on), chunks of yellow industrial rubber earplugs, cut to resemble corn; they also take a flavour well. Adrian.

Re: Enterprise casters

Rubber casters are superb for tench. I use 2 of them hair-rigged to a size 12 or 3 on a size 10 and their buoyancy just neutralises the weight of the hook. With tench I use them in conjunction with a small PVA mesh bag of casters nicked onto the hook with a short 3 inch hooklink and a semi-fixed 2 oz lead. Used thus, the tench finds a little pile of casters on the bottom, sucks at them and is hooked.

Rubbers! | ||
|
Use a small splitshot close to the hook but, surely a plastic or otherwise, caster wafting about in the fish movements, is quite attractive?
I had a great deal of success with them, getting through hundreds of tiny rudd,to get to some nice Crucians, this spring. |

Re: Enterprise Rubber Casters

When I hair rig them, i use a sewing needle. I pass the hair down the entire length of the caster and then back up again, tying it off with a uni-knot and a small blob of superglue. This was a method that has been tried and tested by local anglers and they simply passed the information onto me, but it seems to work.

Re: Enterprise Rubber Casters

Robbo,a good dodge is to remove some of the lead wire inner from some leadcore, this can be twisted around the shank of the hook ,nice , neat and simple!.
There really is no point in fishing real casters on the hook nowadays, the plastic ones work just as well and are totally immune from the attentions of small fish , Tench are much more 'Riggy' than barbel and they love em |

Re: Enterprise Rubber Casters

i use then all the time and have been doing so since they first came out. Before which i was using the rubber grubs from sportsfish.I hair rig them the same as paul but have now stopped using the superglue to secure the uni knot .If the presentation is ruined by a fish, or getting the rubber castor stuck in the mesh of the net ,by not using super glue you can often tease the knot with a baiting needle and continue using the rig.People dont like the idea of them being buoyant but to me its there best attribute. You mention using a size fourteen drennan specilist hook ...use a size fourteen drennen barbel specialist instead ...and you dont need two on the hair as one is sufficient......i have caught a few barbel on these rigs but in the main i use them for chub fishing .can tell you that they have been used very successfully for tench and carp .

thanx Cam the picture really helped no one on my strech of river fishes with caster for barbel i have been finking of using them in the low clear summer conditions, because i have seen the barbel spooking off of pellet and i fink natural baits like maggots, caster and lob worm may be the way to get over this problem.
