The reason i ask is , people allways say they soak them in there fave flavour !!!, but they allways have a base flavour to start with ie Hallibut, Crab etc... so this once you soak in your own ends up a weired mix. I Was thinking of trying some flavours my self this year and wondered if there are any plain ones about so you get the true flavour your after.??

Posts: 206 (10/03/07 22:30) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i dont think that mixing flavours is a problem often it makes a highly attractive boilie, many carp anglers use fish cranberry, and blood and orange boilies, if you want a nuetral boilie you could always make your own base mix and add no flavour hope this helps Rob

As far as boilies go they will always hold the flavour of their constituent parts, eg fishmeal, birdfood, milk or meat proteins, and all a flavour does is give the bait a label. Certainly some of the most effective boilies have virtually no smell that we can discern, for example the source, trigga or active-8. Although there is a definite odour to them, this tends to be of the fishmeal, liver or yeast compounds. There is a theory based on nutritional signal detection, where a fish can pick up the nutritional scent of a bait. In this case, a bait based on, for example, fishmeals will always attract due to its inherent attractants. In other words, there is nothing to be gained from putting a completely bland bait together just so it holds a particular flavour. Try thinking about a boilie starting from its basic make up, and then, should you wish to add a flavour, find one to complement this, rather than starting with a flavour and working backwards. To be old and wise, first you have to be young and stupid!

Posts: 202 (10/03/07 23:35) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Bread has probably caught more fish than any other bait...not much flavour to it, but something about it fish love, obviously visible, but more than that once they get a taste they come back for more. I would recommend a visit to a Koi carp establishment, ask them there about fish food, nutrition ect and you may find out a few useful pointers as to baitmaking, and what fish will readily eat.
