I've just really started getting into the barbel this year and have to say the most exciting fishing I have done has been in the shallow rivers where you can actually see the fish picking up baits. As I'm quite new to this and don't really know the rivers on here that well, does anyone have any recommendations? I have been fishing the Marden which is beautiful and I plan to get involved on the Hampshire Avon in the summer for a few days, but as I have to travel just wondering if there are more shallow rivers like this I should try?

Both stretches are under the amalgamation.

well we all know limplystoke and avonclif are barbel spots but not like easy easy easy lacock as you cant see them as easy or you just cant see them at limply and avonclif..but dont forget the barbel numbers in lacock are loads as you can find easy as small river but every ones welcome to go to the other spots as shippo said but you got to find them and not so easy nor not so easy to spot..as stated shallow rivers is what this person is looking for to spot fish so go to lacock or as above stated but i know where i would go and thats where TREFOR WEST goes and does his tuition because he can show people barbel who have never seen one before and you can catch them at the end of ya rod tip in summer at abbey field so this would be LACOCK OR EASY EASY EASY as i know it

Dave,
Seeing them is one thing, catching them is another ! Lacock and most of the BA get 'Hammered' ! The HA is fascinating, but 'rock hard' ! The Marden.......well, I have my edges in clear conditions......In the winter it's been very, very hard ! You have to remember that those who catch, put the effort and time in ! Believe me, it ain't 'Easy Easy' ! There are other rivers which are , but I will leave that to PM's Cheers Paul M.......... |

John,
There lies my problem ! Lack of time ! In the summer a 2 hr sess is more than enough ! This time of year, sometimes it ain't. It's all about being out there at the right time (and place of course) ! Wanted to go today, air temp this afternoon was around 15 ! But couldn't 'buy' the time ! Cheers Paul M...... |

paul you are right but as you say time and im lucky with my job to get alot of time for fishing but as you say time and being there at the right time and place is spot on i have to agree ..was not trying to be funny telling everybody lacock is easy and you catch loads ..but the person was asking a question on where you can see the fish so i said but as you said there are other bits of river very close to there and different rivers where you can see fish and they aint that far away ..infact they are 20 mins at most ..so i just helped a person out and told him where to see them and dont get me wrong ill be there for the opening night to get me a few boris ..
