Havea look in the FAQ and similar threads in these pages.
A short and sweet answer, for winter Low clear water - maggot feeder Warm flood water - Spam, Spam and Spam (three varieties) Any other time - decent boilie mix and paste pellet and (pellet/HNV) paste Want to be different try stalking with a smelly bread paste. -- Dr Barbus
There's a world of difference between waiting and sitting. |

maggots,a big old bunch or a big juicy lob worm

I would plump for meat (spam) most of the time, but if your normal fish/meat protein based paste baits are not working in cold conditions, its worth trying an expensive milk protein based paste such as Nutrabaits Hi Nu Val and keep flavours to a minimum. You can even soften up the pellets in your feeder with condensed milk instead of water, which can also help in winter.

If the conditions are right for catching barbel then pellets will still work pretty well.
If conditions are not right then fish for roach, perch, chub, pike, grayling.......... Cahal |
