A short and sweet answer, for winter Low clear water - maggot feeder Warm flood water - Spam, Spam and Spam (three varieties) Any other time - decent boilie mix and paste pellet and (pellet/HNV) paste Want to be different try stalking with a smelly bread paste. -- Dr Barbus

maggots,a big old bunch or a big juicy lob worm
of coarse a big smelly piece of meat is a good all year round bait. dave.

I would plump for meat (spam) most of the time, but if your normal fish/meat protein based paste baits are not working in cold conditions, its worth trying an expensive milk protein based paste such as Nutrabaits Hi Nu Val and keep flavours to a minimum. You can even soften up the pellets in your feeder with condensed milk instead of water, which can also help in winter.

If the conditions are right for catching barbel then pellets will still work pretty well.
If conditions are not right then fish for roach, perch, chub, pike, grayling.......... Cahal |

A golf ball sized lump of paste, If there is a fish in the swim she will find it.

In the recent floodwater I've been getting a few on cheesepaste and Dynamite carp chunks.
Cheesepaste recipe - 50% puff pastry mix (buy it in the supermarket), 25% Danish Blue, 25% grated cheddar. Add a touch of olive oil and flavourings of choice (Rod Hutchinson "rank cheese" is good). Mix the whole lot into a paste in the blender. Job done! To present the cheesepaste - tie an old button to the end of your hooklink and add a size 8 hook via a knotless knot. Mould the paste around the button to get a very nice lump on a hair. Good luck! Steve |

Richworth Cheese? | ||
|
Some of Hutchys products are getting hard to find.
However, Richworth Cheese Flavours come in two varieties Cheese and BlueCheese The latter used to be std additive to many winter carp baits. Richworth do a Blue Cheese Extarct powder/liquid combination too. Quote: -- Dr Barbus

Re: Richworth Cheese? | ||

Danny, Very good question! I bought my Rod Hutchinson rank cheese yonks ago and because I only use it in microscopic quantities (open the lid and you'll soon understand why!!!) it lasted a heck of a long time. I've nearly run out and I will soon need more. Not sure where you can buy it - but if you find a supplier, let us all know!!! May have to use an inferior substitute product as suggested above. All I can say is that the RH product lives up to its name......... Steve |

Re: Richworth Cheese? | ||

Quite alot of the RH flavours have been discontinued
Ultra Spice being one of them and I suspect Rank Cheese also |
