Ian,
Have a look at premier baits, cc moore, or quality baits. Nice prices and they catch fish. Best Barbel John Look ye also while life lasts. |

Bankside tackle do a couple of base mixes made in conjunction with SM, 6.99 a kilo. Dairy spice sounds good.

My friends and me often use a basemix made out of 80 % grounded Frolic dog food and 20 % durum wheat (by weight). We do not feel that we really have to ad any flavour, but do so every now and then. What keeps us away from adding to many things are the connivance off being able to go down to the supermarket and pick up a couple bags of Frolic on the way out to do the prebaitning. I do not know about the barbell, but carp, bream and tench just loves Frolic and boilies and paste made out that simple mix.

I would love to be able to know up a workable paste from easily obtained ingredients. I like the JB range, but they aren't easy to obtain, and they are expensive.
I have noted the Frolic recipe (thanks for that) but I want to have a play myself. Must be great catching on a bait you have devised yourself. Phil |

Phil,
Check out www.ccmoore.com, scroll to boilie ingredients and then additives for loads of bits and bobs for making up quite cost-effective bait. Another one is to use halibut groundbait or ground pellets as the bulk ingredient and go from there... have fun and experiment |

Cheers for that Darren, I'll check it out.
I'm sure JB stuff is good, but not convinced that it's not better than it needs to be if you know what I mean. I fancy trying something savoury with maybe marmite, and not for lunch. Must get a good leakage from that! I was thinking milk powder, but I like the semolina suggestion for sweeter baits, I think I read on a post ages ago that milk is a bit dodgy for barbs digestion, not sure if I remembered right. Quality Baits, www.qualitybaits.co.uk - the cheaper 50/50 Spicy Red fish mix is superb for the price (£2 a kilo!). Use Monster Crab or Frankfurter sausage flavours with it.
Caught stacks of massive carp on it and had the Teme barbel hooked on it a few autumns ago. Very, very very good value for a great product. Have to say though I use Halibut pellets and Dynamite Baits halibut boilies now ! Just havent got time to make baits no more! |

Hi Ian
Check out www.sbsbaits.com/index.php?cPath=23 SBS have got a 2 for 1 offer on until 10/11/06, on all their products, including base mixes. And no, I don't have any affiliation to/sponsorship with the company. I'm debating whether to take the plunge for some M2 mix, unless I can find some cheap JB Savoury spice, which has been a favourite for a while now. Hope this helps Cheers Mark |
