Same guys who were predicting the end of Angling ("Our" Version), Fish (ditto), British Rural Life (ditto), Civilization (ditto) and pretty well everything else besides just a few months ... "if it doesn't rain soon ... it's this blasted Government's fault etc" But I think it's wonderful (all this rain). Here is the Met Office on what we got in November. www.metoffice.gov.uk/clim...ember.html Rain in England 36% up on a long-term average etc. Temperatures similarly well up. Don't know if it is as a result of global warming, but, for the moment at least, neither me nor the barbel mind. I'll be out this week.

Posts: 1301 (11/12/06 00:09) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Paul I can cope with the rain, and fortunately with access to five Barbel holding rivers locally, can usually find one to fish where it is safe to venture forth. And it is too cold, the chub are always friendly. Unfortunately, the farmers around here will have some rotten harvests due to the Ouse growing about a mile wide in places. They'll claim on their insurance, so they won't go bust, and view the silt as some extra natural fertiliser, when the waters receed. Same for the houseowners on the flood plains, where they can get insurance, that is. I will end up paying for that too as those insurance costs are passed on. 15 RiverView is all very nice in the english summer idyll, but a different thing all together in a very wet autumn (or spring or winter). The poor sods who bought the places are not to blame, the developers and EA who granted planning permission are. And as for the EA.... The problem is, we have moved from drought conditions in some parts of the country in August to large flood plains turned aquatic in four months. And next summer you just know that the South East/London area will be screaming about water, or rather the lack of it. Suggests something a bit wrong does it not? 50 years plus of manipulating the rivers so they get rid of water has lowered water tables with its resultant summer problems, and need for flood banks which break at times through erosion, ditches etc and the resultant flood plains rather than water meadows. One of the main neccesities for life, water, is one of the most poorly managed resources in this country. -- Dr Barbus

Of course Leanne will be favorite to catch the British record as she fishes Adams Mill...so come on girl are you up for it...heres your chance best winter on record.....dont blow it...us guys will be watching.

I'm praying that it carries on and makes some impact upon levels/flow rates next season, as if it doesn't, we could be in even more trouble.... Regards, Joe.

Im not so sure it would of put on that much weight since GK had her last water temps have beeen a bit up and down up thier. regardes LJ.

It would be easy to believe that the flooding our garage has received every year in the last three is down to global warming, but the sad fact is that since the largest ASDA in europe was built around the corner, yes in 2003, the rainwater has nowhere to go, as the ASDA car park is sitting on what was the drainage flood plain. Lots of intelligent people work for Swindon Borough Council you know, not!! I'm not totally convinced that what we are receiving weather wise is totally global warming related. Weather patterns fluctuate over centuries and i'm hoping that we are going through one of those patterns right now. If not its too late and we are in serious s..t!! I was trying to convey that the water resources in this country are (and have been) appalling mis-managed. There are signs of change of direction as indicated on the Blueprint for Water thread. Gotta go empty my rain buckets.... Current state makes for interesting fishing tho...

The whole thing needs looking at from water supply, drainage, flood management and defence.There must be some way of harnessing all this extra water we have in order to boost low summer levels.
