Does anyone use Braid on there centrepin. Are there any problems using it, also, how does it handle for trotting.

Hi Rayo i use it often and have never experienced any difficulties in doing so. In fact, it's less likely to blow around in windy conditions.
I can't remember using it for trotting tho' but i've read stuff on this site from people who have and it seems to work well! |

Not sure if it will work to well for trotting, as when ever i use a quivertip the braid grates through the smaller rings quite abit, and as a float rod will have smaller eyes this might inder the smoothness of the trot?
Safer to stick to the mono i think. |

That would depend on the type of braid Millie, surely?

Hi Rayo
I use PowerPro on all of my c'pins, and have no problems. Unlike many, I load lots (100m or so) on mine rather than a small amount often suggested by others. Due to its lack of stretch I always put mono backing to avoid the (potential) of slipping. Incidentally, I use a double grinner to join the mono and braid, and slip a 2" length of 0.5mm bore yellow sleeving over the knot to trap the ends and to act as an indicator. paul4 ps. You finally got rid of that Ironsilk stuff you were trying last time we were on the bank together - how long ago that was |

Rayo - I have used it in the past with no problems for trotting. Make sure the brand you chose is a floating one I have used Power Pro & Fireline in the past, the new crystal Fireline might be worth a look.
Use a few feet of mono or Fluro at the end. Use a softish rod as there is no stretch in the braid, you will find setting the hook different as well - just lifting the rod usually suffices. |

Been using 14lb Fireline, although had no problems at all with this, but use 8lb & 10lb mono on my pins, so like u say chaps use a braid which u know works, or play safe and use mono.

Thanks for the replies folks. Think I will give it a go and spool some up. I have got some DAM Steelpower Braid left over, plenty enough to put on my pin. Have had some in a bowl of water for about a half hour and it does float.
Next problem is which rod to use. I have as spare, a Fox barbel plus with quivertip, a Shimano Nexave Barbel power with quivertip or a Shimano Catana 14' match rod.Hoping I don't need to buy a new rod. Paul, I've been off the Ironsilk for ages now, tend to change my mainline every year. Not that it makes a lot of difference though. just like to spend Lindas money Rayo |

i've used braid (power pro) for trotting for 3 nearly four years now,8lb for light line work & 20lb for general float work plus some sinking braid on another centrepin, and i did have some small problems when first using it,but not down to the line but me or my tackle i was using with it,i have a old 15ft rod that i had a casting problem with (not flexable enough in the right places) which always gave a grating noise as the braid went though the eyes (stand-off) but didn't damage eyes or line ? a new 14ft rod sorted that out (
