My bro has had big chub on strawberry pop-up + halibut snowmen so fruit might be good for barbs, I've never tried.

It might have been the number of snowmen he had hanging on his hook that made all the difference, especially at this time of year

Just a standard single hair two boillie job on a size 8 hook in the late summer, produced him a number of chub and 2 pike.

As said be4 reli the type of boilies doesnt really matter...if you have the fish feeding confidently....

I think you will find that in all but ideal conditions on rivers carrying less than a big head of Barbel, it does matter. At least that is what 20 years of Barbeling has taught me. -- Dr Barbus

If you're having a look at the CC Moores range, i would take a close look at Odyssey XXX.
Meteore i've only ever found to be a good carp catcher. |

I think you'll find it harder to locate a boile that won't catch than one that will!
I had a few white chocolate's rolling around in the bag last summer so thought i'd give 'em a go, they like! |

it's a bit of a minefield to what to use and not use but when i used to make my own in the carp days
keep it simple. i caught loads on a 50/50 mix, eggs, sweetner, flavour, and colour and that was it. dave.

to contradict you, i would suggest that while you are right on keep it simple, your mix leads astray. I would suggest simple mix and additive (eg source and source liquid), no flavours at mix time. Why? Easy recipe, quality bait, countless others like trigga etc. If you want to experiment with flavours do the Jim Gibbonson trick of adding 1ml at defreeze time to the bag. That way you do not tie yourself into one flavour, and can choose according to what seems right at fishing time, not bait making time. -- Dr Barbus
