For hair rigging meat, a standard hair does not suffice as it typically cuts through the meat, Hair plus plastic tubing is better. If the tubing is stiff enough you can push it through the meat rather than use baiting needle.
A sliver of cork between the bait and hair stop helps too, and counter balances weight of hook. For bait stops, I have used bought ones, blades of grass, twigs, pieces of plastic coating (from wire - see below) and small pieces of broad rubber bands - all work to some extent.
The paste mates, either tube or curly wire and the enterprise boilie spike all work too. Cheapest is make your own from single core wire, curl around large screwdriver, make loop and attach to hair. Screw meat onto it. A metre of wire makes an awful lot of attachments. And can be used to quickly change bait to paste, corn or boilies without having to rerig. Plastic coating from wire is an alternative to the paste mate tubes.

For really big meat baits, I use a belt and braces approach, with both hair rig and hook impaled into the bait.
These stand up to fairly vigourous casts across the larger of my local rivers (40 yards?).
None of these are going to really do what you want as of course chub, bream etc will continue to pull it apart until it has gone. That and the odd missed small indication bite will mean that you will retrieve baitless rigs. But if you want a bait out there for hours, should you be using luncheon meat?
