Has any one tryed steaming Hemp Seed? If so how long do you steam it for to get it right?

If you soak it first for two days its so much better.
The husks still get stuck in your teeth though. |

Didn't really have that much success with a domestic steamer, seemed to take for ages. May have been the batch of hemp but I don't think so.
Had more success using a pressure cooker - presoak hemp overnight and then pressure cook for 20 to 30 minutes. Tries various other 'standard' boiling techniques - saucepan to Burco for larger quantities as well as Dewar flask ( a sort of large vacuum flask). I've found that the most convenient way (providing you don't want large quantities) is to use a domestic slow cooker. Soak overnight in the slow cooker and then slow cook for three hours. Slow cookers can be bought new for around £20. Cheers Bob |

Soak it overnight and then boil it to buggery in a large sausepan for about twenty minutes. Never fails. It sounds as if it actually takes longer in a pressure cooker.

If the wife hates the smell in kitchen.
The way i do it is half fill a large flask with Hemp add 2 teaspoons of Bicarb and 3 quater fill with boiling water and leave over night. And its ready for fishing in morning,Spot on Hemp every Time |

Cover Hemp with boiling water and a teaspoon of bicarb and leave overnight. Add sugar if you want it nice and black and boil next morning for ten minutes. Dependant of course on you being the one wearing the trousers.

I have found steaming to be very sucsesful cover hemp with boiling water and soak for 24 hours min.
A couple of pints should take 20-30mins. steaming however i have had some batches that just wont split. If this happens just boil it and put up the missus moaning at you for the smell chances are she is probably @#%$ at you going fishing anyway |

For shedloads-
half /threequarters fill a coolbox up with hemp,cover with boiling water and leave overnight. Just right. For short sessions Threequarters fill a big flask with hemp, fill up with boiling water. Leave for an hour - nicely split grains. You could then cool the hemp, bag it and chuck it into the freezer. Microwave for a minute before using. Or you could liquidise and then freeze in cubes, my secret weapon for barbs. Creates a wonderful milky oily slick. |
