I also found virtually everything i caught was on the hook nearest the feeder anyway. It gets interesting when you hook two fish at once, had it happen a
couple of times on Startops years ago with perch, you'd get them to the net and one would be ready whilst the other was still fighting! This was when
getting takes virtually on the drop when there was a shoal in your swim, never had it on a rig that had been left out for any time.

2 hook rigs,
I wouldnt use such a rig, I dont see the point and |isnt the use of 2 or more hooks on a rig (in fresh water) banned? |

I must have landed well over 500 tench and big roach on two hook rigs over the years. I have never lost a fish due to the trailing hook catching weed, snags
or the landing net. One of the reasons I use the rig is ithat unlike other posters I reckon I get about half on the top hook, half on the bottom hook so
I'm convinced it catches me more fish. On occasions when the fish have been really having it I've removed the second hook for simplicity but other than
that I see no reason to stop using a two hook rig in the right situation. I've never foul-hooked a fish on the trailing hook but did once catch a`tench
fairly hooked on both hooks

Dear Ponty, everything you said in the last post confirms to me that two hook rigs should not be used as it makes no difference and then you said you remove a
hook if they are having it!
Alanne ps the mackerel scenario doesn't work as you may find we return most of our fish!

theposterformerleyknownasAnne wrote:No it doesn't - it says I catch similar numbers of fish on the top and the bottom hook. By my reckoning there must be occasions I get a bite quicker than if I was using one hook. Indeed there must be occasions when a fish has taken a baited hook that it otherwise wouldn't have done. As long as the second hook isn't having a negative effect such as snagging weed it's not exactly rocket science to realise that two hooks offer a benefit in some circumstances! If you don't think it's ethical or don't want to use a two hook rig don't use one but don't delude yourself that it makes no difference! And if you're bothered about two hooks stick to one rod and one hook - two two hook rigs is no different to an angler using 4 rods where appropriate! Try it on a suitable water and then comment it makes no difference! |

You are of course now avin a larf
My four hooks on four rods would out fish your two hooks on two rods over a period of time. If you use just one hook it then becomes the top and bottom hook and so will always be the hook that catches. Try and justify it if you wish but the practice is wrong and should not be allowed in my opinion
But your opinion differs and that's fine by me. Just dont try to join the water I control. Lastly, with the helicopter multihook rig, why not use more than two hooks, say 4 or 5and while we are at it lets use another feeder at the top of the rig, or put a small pva bag on each hook, this way several different baits and cocktails could be used on each rig. This is a serious question for you and would be quite feasible to do with the modern trend for very short hooklinks. Alanne |
