Anyhow, when I was reading Carpworld I got to thinking that that there seems to be a huge gap in the market for a serious multi-specimen based magazine, similar in format to that of Carpworld. By this I mean specifically one that caters to readers who like to fish for specimen sized fish but of all species. I know that there are coarse angling magazines aplenty, but they seem to carry far too much copy related to the match scene, commercial puddle fishing and, horror of horror, pole fishing.
Personally I'd like to be able to get a monthly like Carpworld, that ran articles, say, on the history of the perch record or up to date specimen big-pit Tench techniques and on the next page had an article on the current state of the Mahseer in the Cauvery river or perhaps the stocking history of the Colne valley. In short something a little more thought provoking and interesting than the current lot, which just seems to be the same old same old.
I know that the market is too small for "advanced Tench Fishing Magazine" or "barbelology" but surely there is a market out there for a magazine that caters to anglers who like to read about fishing for big Barbel, Carp, Tench, Pike, Perch etc, here and abroad, but don't want to read about Bob Nudd( no disrespect to the chap) fishing some snake shaped canal lake for twenty quid a day.
Could there be something in this for one of the angling publication companys, or am I just completely wrong?
All the best
Haydn
