I have been using leadcore to pin everything down behind my rig, but think that it stands out to much.
What other ways can you recomend to hide it from the fish and keep everything pinned to the bottom?
thanks.

Do not know if this has already been talked about?

Andy - Check out what I had to say about fishing small-river spates in your Womble thread the other week - rod angles, backleads etc. Same applies when the
river is low. The less self-inflicted garbage on your line (and particularly near the bait) the better, I reckon...

hello Andy
yes this is a subject that has been covered many times and the leadcore issue is being hotly debated on the B.S forum but thats about the trent and why you need it on there i don`t know and i fish it all season ? what mr boote has said i totally agree with if you can keep your lead etc rubbish free and everything pinned down all the better a back lead a few ft up the line fastened in place with flot stops works well on smaller rivers but i will say i find nothing wrong with leadcore it does a great job many say it tethers fish etc but carp anglers have been on it for over 15 years and they still use it most of these guys really care for their quarry so i can`t really see a clear arguement against it but i believe you have to shop around to find one which matches the river bed you are fishing on . |

You have to consider the flow, in any reasnoble flow, the leadcore will not be heavy enough to pin the line down, adding additional weight will help, but why
not just do that ,and not bother with leadcore. Think what happens in the event of the mainline breaking, it does and will happen, so do you really want to
leave a live rig out there?

Thanks all, going to have a good look at my end tackle. Have found different coloured lead core and some small flying backleads. Also found little weights that
are used for pop-ups that are quick and easy to attach and remove from the line.
Good luck all. Andy. |

i'm a big fan of leadcore for carp fishing
but for barbel fishing id rather keep my lines up to prevent debris collecting as i've found most jammies etc trundle along the bottom i do like to use tubing/poly leaders when fishing in snags as a rubbing leader only thing i worry about a fish seeing is my bait cant say ive ever known a barbel to spook of my leader/line/tubing
Kipper Bait 08............applicate presentate obliterate (in my own little world bill

On a river, presentation needs not to be as neat as though you where fishing on a clear gravel pit so i think the leadcore is best left at home in this
situation however if you still choose to use it, it should be used saftly so that if the mainline should snap the fish can 'shed' the weight and
leadcore quickly and with minimum effort...

if you are to use leadcore, use a helicoptor style rig, then the fish will not trail lead, and the leader,
hope this helps luke |

Hi
I have only really used lead core on snaggy or rocky river beds. On clear gravel runs then just a flying back lead. Regards Jedd |

Jedd, hits the nail on the head for me! ...And the whole point why I've banged on for years about the mis-use of this product. It doesn't matter how many articles they write, how many diagrams they draw up, it will ALWAYS be used by MANY, in the wrong manner! The VERY LAST place anyone should use leadcore ...is in snaggy or rocky areas. They say - A little knowledge is a bad thing. - I'm afraid where this product is concerned, this will always be the case! Dazza. |

Amen, barbel anglers only use lead core to either hook up with more fish,or to try and lose less fish.At the expense of the fish themselves.

well said dan,you dont have to use leadcore to pin things down, there are other ways to do this, you can also use rig tubing which may look crude on the eye,but
really when in the water it looks just like weed..but like i said before..if you do feel the need to use leadcore, please think about your rig carefully..
