Hi Richy, think the section Ferryhill has is on the north bank if I remember rightly. Think you'll find barbel on that section not sure what access is like
though. I know there are some well made pegs on that side but not sure if it is where the barbel are.
Off for a trek out this evening, anyone know what the river is looking like today. Thought it might have dropped to a nice level after the recent rain and am determined to break my duck. |

Hi everyone
I know you will all be tired of seeing these type of posts but i need some help. I have fished for wiskers for years on the river dane with a bit of success, but i have moved up into the north east and my beloved barbel days seemed over. I was looking at the Tees forum and it got me wanting that rod tip to swing again, I am not a member of any clubs, but would love to fish the river tees. I have never seen the river and no nohing about it (I am living in Chestre-Le-Street). Can anyone give me advice on where to fish, park etc.
Any comments would be appreciated |

Think there is some reasonable fishing on your own doorstep mate. Near the cricket ground at CLS is a day ticket water or Ferens Park down in Durham City also
holds barbel and is free water. Check out the Wear forum, unfortunately all the places I fish are club waters and am not in the best position to advice you on
where to park. There is a free stretch at Broken Scar and a lot of the regular lads on here will be more than glad to help you.

Sounds very much like Chester club are trying to put restrictions on their coarse anglers.
You could bet your house on them banning bait fishing. I have never heard of anyone complaining about too many fish being taken. Anyone with half a brain
will know that the number of rod caught fish only represents a very small number of the total run. Talking to those who fish the river higher up there were so
many in the redds last winter that they could almost walk across their backs.
From what I have been told only game anglers have received the letter inviting them to the EOGM although the coarse anglers who do fish below Cong Burn pay
the same membership fees.

Hi John, I used to fish the Chester Moor stretch when I had a Hartlepool ticket and know that the game anglers seem to look down on us mere coarse anglers.
Don't know why and suppose it is more of a problem with CLS club if all the committee are game anglers. Not our fault if they can't catch fish and how
does the riparian know how many fish are being caught on bait or lures? Even if I caught a salmon I'd return it anyway and probably the same for trout. I
only buy a rod license for coarse and truot anyway. Still I bet the club are happy to take your membership dues each year, best of luck with your struggle
mate.
On a more pleasant note I have finally broke my duck. Caught three barbel and a chub, also lost an absolute freight train of a take. Caught my first about 8pm, a beauty of 9.5lb. About 20mins later had a real strong take dragging the rod off the rests with baitrunner screaming, it headed for what I found out was a snag on the inside bank and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Snagged up and lost it though I did manage to get free by walking down the bank about 10yards and applying pressure. Thought the swim might have died after that but decided to give it a bit longer and 20mins later a 3lb chub dragged my rod off the rests, thought it was a barbel from the strength of the take. Later caught a 6.5lb barbel and that fought a lot harder than the first, had a few scars on it's right side near the back fins like it had been bitten in the past and a split dorsal fin. Finished off with a 7lb barbel at 9.45, this one went for the snag that I lost the fish on and it was a hell of a battle to keep it away from it. Need to check my reel out tonight as the drag was working properly even though I had set it up last night as I had changed my spool, nearly lost it on the initial run as the drag didn't kick in and I had the anti reverse set on the reel but managed to flick it off in time. The last one was real long fight and it took the fish 10minutes to recover. Snagged my landing net and ripped a hole in it but can't complain after a night like that. Big thanks to JA75 for his help and to everyone on here for their advice, this site has provided me a wealth of info on tactics, swim spotting and tackle set ups. It has been great to see the results from applying this info and am itching to get back out and do battle with the king of the river. |

It seems to have gone a bit quiet on here of late. Anyone catching at the moment? Was going to have a trip out tonight but think I'll wait till tomorrow as
thunder is forecast for today and not the best idea to sit with 12' of carbon fibre in your hand. Rain should be coming as well and since it has been about
two weeks since the last downpour I'm sure the river could do with it.

No rain required thanks middle Tees is fishing its head off early morning and late evening. These are exactly the conditions you need for good pellet
fishing.Had a bike ride down Blackwell the other day looks like everyone has wised up not a soul in site from the dam to the bottom.

Myself and ja75 had a run out last night with mixed results. Mine being the poorer of the two, only managed a chub about 3lb. ja75 met with better results.
First cast of the evening and hooks a lovely barbel 2oz short of 10lb and what a beauty it was. Had a couple more on the hook but unfortunately lost them. Must
have been the new bait you were trying out mate.
River looked lovely, was about 4inches down on last week but not overly clear. The river was absolutely teaming with fry and any lose feed that fell in the shallows was attacked by hordes of the hungry little loves. Met a few other anglers on the bank, don't know if any of them post on here. If you do I was the guy in the blue t shirt and grey fleece sweating like a murderer Dinsdaleman as the others posted 11lb is not what I'd call a young fish but as you quite rightly say come Autumn they will have gained more weight and will probably be nearer the 12lb mark. You never know they may have done a annuli count there and then on the bank, I've heard more far fetched tales recounted on this site

Had a run out today to have another crack with the feeder as I've only managed a couple of very short sessions over the past couple of weeks (had my
fair share of chub but no barbs). Anyway, when I turned up this afternoon at my chosen spot to find the river up about 3ft and tonking through I almost turned
the car around and went home ... but I'm glad I didn't as I broke my PB with a fish of 12lb 13oz.
