Hi,
I have just gone for a Korum Barbel/Specimen Spoon Net (£17.99 from tackleuk.co.uk). Used it for the first time this weekend on a lake Carp fishing. Positives - Will fit the biggetst fish (think positive!), its cheap and made of latex so it cleans ands drys nice and quickly. Negatives - a little heavy Cheers Dave |

have to agree with custard pie dai, the Korum net is very good, however i would have preferred a deeper drop in the net so that you can leave the net in the
margins for the fish to recover nicely.
the Dean Macey specimen net from Nash is excellent (well, it is until a rat gets into your garage and chews it to shreds!), with a very good drop, though is normal mesh rather than latex. your choice really. both retail for under £20. |

The Korum net is a good size but it is a bit on the heavy side. I had a look at the Gardner specimen net when last in the tackle shop. It looks to be of
similar size to the Korum net but much lighter. It's also quite deep for resting fish. I think it was £17.99 so won't break the bank either.

Is the Fox Predator Landing Net any good for barbel?
No , spreader block is plastic and will break.Find similar shape size mesh with a metal spreader block and that will be the net you need. |

Don't buy a Fox Predator as after even fairly light use the spreader block gave up.

Right guys, I feel that I have some valuable input for this thread as I have just returned from a good session on th BA at Avoncliffe during which I failed to
record the weight of my PB fish due to landing net issues. Having landed a very good fish which I reckon would have gone somewhere between 12.5 and 13 pounds I
took the fish up the bank in my NEW Dean Macey spoon and removed the hook, I then returned the fish to the water to recover in my NEW Dean Macey spoon net and
prepared my scales and camera for weighing and pictures. Another angler then arrived and was kind enough to offer assistance with photographs, thank you if you
are a BFW user, I didn't get his name. Upon lifting the fish clear of the water to be photographed and weighed, my NEW (brand new, first time out of its
cute little green bag) Dean Macey net proceeded to snap cleanly in half at the spreader block and send the fish straight back to it's watery home. So in my
humble opinion, I wouldn,t touch them with a f****n barge pole!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was slightly annoyed. However, I also own a latex Korum net (not a spoon but a
triangular giant thing).Although this net has been very good since I have had it, I find the latex covered netting very bulky and awkward if you are trying to
walk about with it or pack it away. In esscence, I would recommend a spoon with a good drop to it and a strong spreader block as well, no need for latex as we
have coped with smelly nets for years(unless you intend to use it for a bit of piking as trebles do not penetrate them so easily) I won't go as far as to
tell you what make to get, but you would probably do well do spend an extra few quid on it. In the mean time I'm off to sulk with my glass of Rioja and
contemplate whether Mr Macey should retire from the tackle game as well as the decathlon.........!? Hope this is of some use to you,
Tight Lines (and strong nets) Andy. PS still sulking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

bought off you last year, it went like a trooper.
