avoiding eels | ||
|
Hi to everybody. Got very excited today - watched a barbel flashing over the gravel in a shallow section having not seen one since midsummer. For once I was
disciplined and droppered in some pellets and hemp and wandered of for an hour or so in some other swims. After a few more feeding visits I eventually dropped
my rig in - two elips pellets super-glued to a hair as bait - and waited. After about ten minutes the tip jagged and I struck into another bloody eel. Can
anybody suggest a bait that the slippery monsters will avoid? I have had 3 this week and am getting reasonably competent at unhooking them (forgot to take a
towel today and had to use my hat for grip - yuk!)

Fished for a few hours yesterday...and had a blinder! 3 barbel and not one under double figures!!!
I was quite amazed as I've never had more than one 'double' in a
session until now..10.01.10.03 and this one topped the lot....
11.12 Very Happy!!!

John,
Thanks for the advice re. eels and hemp. I droppered in six loads and waited a while. It seemed to work as the bite that came was a barbel not a snake. Unfortunately I had a back lead on and it snagged on a rock. I could see the fish but evertything went solid. However it managed to slip the hook and didn't end up tethered. It wasn't a huge barbel but it was a massive step forward for me in terms of confidence on my bit of the river. Having finally found some fish I have been applying some of Tony Miles' ideas to catch one in daylight while the kids are at school. It will be nice to finally land one at some point but at least each trip is full of anticipation and purpose. Cheers, Simon. |

Phils double | ||
|
Hi Kev
Well believe it or not it was just over 10Ib on Phils scales but I know it was much more than that, it was huge. We are going to test Phils scales hopefully tonight because I am convinced it was between 12-13. I think I saw you briefly Saturday when we were leaving. Regards Jedd |

Simon, that was a great treble mate well done, and some other lumps coming out well done to those captors. out myself yesterday with a barbel virgin, we
managed 2 each (small ones mind 4-5lb) and about a dozen chub. needless to say he was well chuffed. hooked i think.
all the best. |

So there are barbel in the BA then?! I think i'm going to try the evenings from now on rather than early morning starts.
If anybody would like to point me in the right direction (or any direction) of a barbel i would be so grateful.

please help! | ||

hi all
this is my first post, and the first time fishing the bristol avon, i am looking for a stretch of river to fish tomorrow with a good chance of a bite or two. I live in bristol and willing to travel. I am a member of alcove angling club and they have some water included on there ticket around keynsham area. (jack whites, the crane and chequers) I recently walked this stretch the other day from keynsham mariner down past cadburys factory and could not find many fishable swims. Does this area contain barbel? also heard rumours of big carp? any pointers would be greatly appreciated. for my session tomorrow i was thinking of buying a day ticket on amagualated water at either lacock area or limpley stoke. im not member of this club yet but am seriously considering it. if anyone could point me in right position i would be greatfull. Im not after huge barbel just to be able to catch a few and also chub. Also enjoy stick float fishing. again any info appreciated cheers jon |

Hi jonnie 1986 If youre looking for somewhere reliable Lacock is youre best bet on a day ticket but if want to spend a little bit more Chippenham AC have some
good water at Kellaways and peckingel, as for Keynsham they do catch barbel there but you need to spend a bit of time trying to find them and trying to avoid
the many Bream which seem to inhabit the river there. Good luck!
