Yes, I tend to think that the cycle of life is continuing happily (unless there are a plethora of otters/cormorants) in most rivers. Paul Boote hit the nail on
the head with his 'nursery' story - the same thing takes place in Northern rivers, Paul.

Hello Anne,welcome.
When i fished Adams Mill, 7/8 years ago, the smaller fish were there in the range you specify. I never caught them but I saw them landed, my pb from that stretch was 12ozs!!! Those fish were no doubt waiting in the wings, for the big girls to move on to a better place. Perhaps they are those 15lbers now. |

I think the same thing happens with Tench. Fished Campbells lake in Crawley for 25 years and caught lots of Tench but never a small one. Never saw a small one
caught. Worried me for a while, then it didn't. Don't know why. Like the idea of nursery areas. Seems to happen on big waters where there are areas out
of reasonable casting range. Does not explain Barbel though. Have not been much help. Back to my home brew.
Sorry for butting in Shaun |
