Up gun your main line to 12lb-15lb either mono or braid. Make sure ur using a good quality flouro, i use esp never a problem, use palomar knots for your
swivels and hooks, check and double check that the knots are sercure, check you have no marks in the floro, long hook lenths 3-4' backlead, micro barbed
hooks if using small ones, fox arma points very good, set clutch for the first run, then backwind helps control the runs better, or even better still use a
pin. Job done hopefully.

Thanks guys for all your advice - a real mixed bag of opinions to work with.
Does anybody have a diagram of the Palomar knott? Ive used the trusty blood knott for years now and touch wood, it has never failed me.

I have had more hook pulls since I changed to smaller barbed hooks - size 8 , I seldom had a pull last season with larger barbless hooks size 6.
I might have to change back and see what happens. |

Mark,
What knots are you using to tie the fluoro to the swivel?? Try using a grinner if you are not already and make sure you lubricate it and your knotless knot well when you pull them tight, if you don't, fluoro generates a lot of friction when you pull it tight and damages the line making it very brittle. You might also find that the difference in stretch between the Fluoro hooklink and the nylonm mainline is focussing stress in the hooklength cauisng it to break, try using fluoro mainline too...........

The Rod tip will go round and a lot of anglers think thats OK the fish is hook.
But when i went with the Great Man himself this is the time i was told to wack it and sink the hook in. Give it a go next time it helps me know end.

pj is right about the hook cut off.it is a prime source ie a badly formed hook.the seamless korum hook is worth a look in this respect although some are not
keen on them .i have had no problem with them in a sensible size .you can get away with 8lb line on a pin but i never go below 10lb.in fairness to the fish
better to have less bites and land them.i have never found barbel to be all that line shy if the qaulity is right. albert
