Wye as a holiday destination | ||
|
Having struggled on the Severn for the last few years we may be persuaded to change venue next year. Anyone put a good case up for the Wye. This is what we
look for in a fishing holiday, I realise some people might scowl at some of the reasons for what we get up to but hey it's our holiday. 1. The venue has to
be close or preferably on the river bank. 2. We would prefer a venue where the fishing is relatively easy, ie two or 3 fish per 6-8 hour session. 3. A pub that
has very long opening hours, ie 2-3am. 4. Good entertainment, I'm not talking night clubs but, music/karaoke, pool, juke box etc. I allready know that the
scenery is stunning and the people are friendly to anglers having visited Ross on Wye last year. I didn't catch mind you.

Hey Devilfish, might have been the Salmon in the swim that lead you to blank. Intimidates the Barbel I think. Happens often. Sometimes though, playing a barbel
will cause a disturbed Salmon to leap?
Worth watching out for... Plenty of fish coming out in the flood, it's very satisfying when you get it right. Interesting how less leads are lost with more flow on the water...

Hi John,
All's well here, hope it's the same with you. I did speak to Malc about getting together sometime this season but am not sure when yet. Ray did you have something in mind mate? Striker & Devilfish, Re Holme Lacey the river is controlled by various clubs here and can be fished on DT's mostly. Woody's can supply you with DT's for teh Hereford DAA bits and the brdige stretch used to be available from the Post Office in Holme Lacey, but not sure if this arrangement still exists.

Yo Mart, still waiting for you to ring me back...
Lost tackle is a big issue on the Wye as you know. 'Is the lead sitting right....?',or 'I'll just move it a bit...lost', or 'don't move it after touch down'..still lost. Good bite then strike, couple of kicks of the tail and.......lost! During the recent flood however, hardly any leads lost this week between a few anglers and a fair few casts! If you want figures......lose avg 3-4 leads per eve session in low flow; lose avg 1 lead or no leads (I wish) per DAY in flood flow. I might be boring but especially when more flow should mean more bow in the line = pressure on moving the lead allowing more shuffling of the lead = more chance of lodged lead/hook = lost tackle. Got me thinking this week. Hope you're well mate. |

Ring you back...you must have a memory like an elephant, I'm afraid senility is kicking in big time now, sorry! Typical situation, I'm in the house,
need something from another room, get there and can't remember what I wanted, bet there's loads who can relate to that on here. Have to have a think
about that lead issue and I'll ring you later.......if I remember!!?? Heard of 2 doubles in a 9 fish catch yesterday, not bad going is it? Be lucky
everybody, Mart

Adam, re. losing leads, i found by wrapping my lead in plasticine this stopped me losing leads enormously mate, especially if i was wrapping flattened leads,
try it it works for me ....j.w

The river was up a foot or two but not as much as I expected considering the rain we have had.
The wye and usk foundation has a Wye web cam. It was on 0.5 ft a week a go now its just dissapearing over 3ft. Not always a direct correlation to the Wye lower down tho. Brian
