Paul, edited my post above................getting a bit frustrated as time is running out for me to sort something. Thought it best to do a general post and
request PM's as i don't know the river at all and who fishes where. Anywhere, one of you has kindly replied so all is not lost.

Bob,
If I felt I knew the river well enough I would gladly help, but I am really just getting to know it again myself after a few years fishing elsewhere ! Cheers Paul M. |

First barbel session on the BA | ||
|
Hi chaps,
had my first ever barbel trip to the BA today as a guest of Tref West. Opened my account with a boris of around 5, followed late morning with a fish of 9-15. Took a break for lunch and returned to add to my tally taking a total of 7 fish with a new pb of 11lb-12oz
Absolutely chuffed to bits, watched all my fish take the bait in 2-3 feet of water, brilliant

windrusher well done on your trip out with Tref, i went out on the BA with him last year after the floods, it was really tough. out last night for 2 barbel and
6 chub, thats more so far this season than all of last season where i really struggled.
tight lines to everyone out over the weekend. all the best Des |

Evening all. Just returned from Lacock on my first visit this season. Very low, very hard going, very busy and very noisy - Lacock Proms are on!
Anyway, i managed a few small chub and a nice roach of 1lb 4oz but no barbs. I think its time to try and get rid of my fascination/obsession with Lacock and try another part of the BA. Any suggestions would be grately recived :-)

Blankety blank I'm afraid. Not another soul in site till about 3.15 in the afternoon...................we left at 4pm because we had to get back to open
the fridge, if you know what i mean. Anyway, got 5 mins down the road and the heavens opened for the rest of the day, i guess the 3 guys who arrived to fish
got a little wet. Still raining heavily this morning when i left Lyneham.
Queens field at Lacock turned out to be the recommended place to fish, did a recce on the Friday afternoon. Not another angler in sight. Plenty of swims which look they would hold barbel. Fished the first field to start and then worked our way upstream to the two next fields and dropped in just about every swim we could. Tried a multitude of baits as well as some very modest pre-baiting. Hell of alot of walking involved, i was truly knackered after that session. Got the odd knocks from chub, you would basically just get one knock and then they would leave it alone, just goes to show how pressured the fish seem to be on this stretch as the chub where i fish are suicidal most of the time and the rod is in constant motion from the greedy blighters. The part of the river up by the Abbey gets hammered even more so i was told. Must say i won't be going there again in a hurry. There seems oodles of river to go at and I'm sure there is ample opportunity to do some pioneering work on this river rather than go to where everybody else goes. But when your on a 1 day visit you have to go where you know there are some barbel i guess. Maybe later in the year when the weed has died down "i might return" and give it a go, much further upstream towards Lyneham. The pickings here may be slim, but, a fish from along this stretch would be pretty special. Thanks for the advice recieved from shippo, in premier angling and from Tom12481 on the riverbank. Bob |
