Greys Durability |

Just wondering if anyone had any views on the above subject have a couple of Greys rods that have been made up in my quiver the last couple of weeks after
purchase they now look a couple of years old and are scratched to bits. I have always kept my rods in a quiver made up and have had several different makes but
never before had scratches like this im a little dissapointed to be honest...please share your views if you have had a similar experience...Shippo

I have a pair of Greys Prodigy Specimen (1.5/2lb TC)
After three years of being trundled around made up in the quiver and used most evenings of the week throughout the season they are still good. There appears to have been a change in the quality of the rods about 18 months ago.

I've had my prodigy's for about 2 years now and they are still good. The only problem I occasionally have is the single leg rings bending, but that is
probably down to my heavy handidness rather than build quality!

Correct me if i am wrong but I think Greys rods used to be advertised as made in the uk, but noticed that the modern ones have a sticker on them saying made in
china.
Definate drop in quality in my opinion. |

I have had a pair of Greys Prodigy Barbel rod's for about 18 month and carry them in a quiver and so far there fine. I do have to fish on a tight budget so
I do take extra care of my tackle but they do get the normal wear and tear of use.

Mine have been in my quiver for the last three years at least - or ever since IYCF said they were the best Barbel rods under £100.
They are as good as the day I bought them - perhaps an odd mark but nothing more. Can't fault them really. |

My Geys rods are two years old and are carried made up in the quiver. They are scratched, covered in mud, and there are not two rings pointing in the same
direction. The reel fittings are jammed with dirt and a mouse has had a good meal out of one of the handles. The fish seem blissfully unaware of these
shortcomings and the rods are still landing them just fine...................

My lad of 22 brought a barbel prdegy last August, used it abot 6 times and finally hooked a barbel on it last Friday evening, the top1.5lb section snapped on
the strike about 4 inches above the first eye from the joint, a proper clean hacksaw type break.
Personally i have never seen the fuss over their rods I dont like the way they finish the but part of the rod all nice and leave the top section plain carbon, it looks like a top section from a power top on a carp pole. I did try to warn him, he was very very very dissapointed as he actually wanted a rod of some distinction.

Interesting to see such contrasting opinions...
I have two of the twin tip 1.75's - I'm definitely of the not very good opinion. Lots of scratches - ring guides fall out, rings bend, liable to explode without warning. Action is pretty good, handle's OK too. When I change the bottom ring on my mates butt section I might stand a chance of getting the one I lent him 18 months ago back. Confined to quiver-tipping and trotting nowadays (the rods, not me) ATB Mike |

a mate of mine has x-flites, keeps em wrapped in cotton wool
my gear needs to be able take a hiding so its eggshell blanks and double leg guides for me something cheap and cheerful, barbel aint subtle so the rod dont need to be either

Each to there own, I only use Grey's prodigy barbel rods and can't fault them. They get a bit of knocking about and have withstood a litte abuse on the
bank but they have taken it well.
I wouldn't swap mine at the moment for any other brand, brilliant rods.
Cheers,

atm i have a fox barbel special 1.5lb and a TFG big river barbel in 1.75lb
the fox is second hand and the TFG was left to me i have torrix carp rods and have been tempted to get torrix barbel rods but they would get ruined and i would worry about them too much

Dave,
Some of the Daiwa rods are made in Scotland some the Far East (Japan I think). I got a Probarbel 2134 back in 2003 and apart from the paint wearing on the male joint it's still bang on. I think mines mad in Japan designed in Scotland not sure though. I got a 2 year old Fox Barbel Specialist and to be honest it is horrible compared to the Daiwa. In fact I have a cheap barbel rod by Sixth Sense which is probably made in China that is nice to use and play fish on and seems to have a better over all finish than the Fox My next rod is either going to be a Daiwa Infinity of a nice shinny 1 from BFW. The quiver carrier section snapped on mine on its first outing, but since then and a fair few barbs later no problems. Good rods in my opinion
