Posts: 136 (02/07/08 15:10) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Just wondered what the BFW'ers thought about the use of bite alarms while barbelling as i've seen a bit of snobbery as regards to using them. Me personally,i will use them most of the time as it saves me looking at the rod top for hours on end and allows me to relax and take in the surroundings,get on with making more rigs,cup of tea or whatever,i never disturb others and have them turned right down and as they are vibration sensing they can give you indications of fish being around you hookbait. I'm in favour of them used correctly and as an aid to enable you to relax and not spend your day staring at the rod top.

I now use the baitrunner which easily wakes me if I nod off or, if one rodding then the line looped over my finger when having a nap does just as good a job! Not got a problem with alarms if they`re used with consideration. Each to their own. By three methods we may learn the wisdom to catch barbel: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.- (Apologies to Confucius!)

Posts: 5 (02/07/08 17:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	mmmmm, no problems with alarms as such. only use one if im fishing 2 rods . i put it on the further downsteam rod. about 4-5 ft away from me . the other rod im on top off. the only thing id say about alarms is over time they can make you a bit reliant on them. inevitably you are more likely to stray from an alarmed rod over time, whats more of an issue is how close to any snags you are fishing.

What I do have a problem with though is people fishing two rods to snags and then going for a kip in the bivvie or having a 100yrd walk up the bank to chat with a mate.

A lot of the venues I fish back on to carp waters any way and if it's a day like Monday all you can hear is the alarms going off. I like mine a bit quieter than that. Also before I developed my current laziness and roved a totaled a mini micron that wasn't that old. Some time's we dont realise how much we put are gear through!! Rich It's funny how we don't sell guns but Toronto bangs!

If you don't like watching the rod tip, try holding the rod. If you fall asleep - wind the ruddy bait in first - cos if you're sleeping you aren't fishing. I am now heading for my bunker !!

There are a lot of "things" I've not done in fishing yet, and a fair few things that I'll likely never do, but I can't think of anything that I'd commit to never doing at this stage. Can't see the point in prematurely ruling anything out altogether. Wonder if there is anything in the apparent fact that the pro / neutral bite alarm folk are usually less "opinionated" on this subject than those that tend to speak out against them. Perhaps the anti bite alarm folk are just more opinionated in general. For the record, I own six delkims, but limit myself to the use of no more than three at a time (usually) - saw someone fishing with a pod the other day turned sideways and had 2 double buzz bars fitted - has got me thinking ATB Mike

My mates wife was a bit worried that his hearing was going so I said I would check it out for her. The next time we were out fishing I quietly crept up behind him and whispered, "had owt Scottie?"....... no reply. So I said it a bit louder, "had owt Scottie?"........still no reply. Still louder "HAD OWT SCOTTIE?". He turned round and said....... "Christ, for the third time,...... two chub and a bream".

With that pitch setting the volume knob has little effect on mine...
