I have a southport card. to be honest the barbel fishing on their stretch is fairly solid, I had several outings at church deeps last year and only had one
succesfull session, catching 2 barbel.
its worth joining for the chub and bream though |

River Ribble @ Elston New Farm | ||

I fished yesterday and caught on a small chub, lots of snigs and even more streamer weed. The river was falling yesterday and between 1530 and 2330 had fallen
about 8 inches. I was lucky enough yesterday to fish to next locals Sean and Martin. Two brilliant blokes who made fishing yesterday a right good laugh. To
boot I walked along the river for about 2 hours (prior to setting up) while Sean showed me what pegs produce under different river conditions. There were some
real classic swims, although they were already taken.
There were to lads from Liverpool who had a good night on Friday into Saturday. 2 barbel both over 11 pound, 2 lb roach and a nice chub. The river was still rising at the time. Maybe that is the the key! I am looking forward to my next session on the Ribble when some of those big barbel will be in my net. Tight Lines. |

Hi Guys,
Just to reply to the no night fishing at New Farm. The Wigan card says it's not allowed, but the farmer say's it is. The land is his and it is common practice for lads to bivvy up for a couple of nights. What harm are they doing as long as rubbish is taken home and people are enjoying the outdoors? |

it's owned in part by the council and a small part is church land , he only allows access he will say it is has he can take a fiver in the process

has anyone fished the stretch previously controlled by warrington anglers since they lost it a couple of years ago. I remember runours of clitheroe anglers
offering limited course fishing but not heard anything since. that area was arguably the best on the ribble, a real shame it was lost

Going along with Barbel Mickey's post, the wigan stretch finishes where the ex warrington stretch begins and i am going to give it ago,but can you park
at the first farm.

Climbfast1,
The fact is that rubbish is NOT taken home. It has been mentioned before on this site that the amount of litter left by so called anglers is a disgrace. I have no issues surrounding the night fishing, it is clearly ambiguous, but people should respect the place. There are people fishing with multiple rods, the most i have seen is two anglers fishing 6 rods between them and were spaced out about 40 yards. this sort of thing is quite clearly taking the p***. I'm sure they would catch/land more fish by fishing one rod each. Sitting in a bivvy with rods on alarms is NOT barbel fishing to my mind. You may as well sit on a carp puddle if that is what they want to do. I'd better stop now before i turn into Mr Angry!!! Jeff |

Went out Friday, had 1 nice Barbel about 8 pound, didn't want to take it out of the water to weigh it cos it put up a very good scrap. Recovered after a
few mins and then swam off strongly. Also had a small chub. Fishing seems a bit slow this season, anyone else finding that? or just me lol.

Seems to me that there is one rule for those who would abide by the club directives, and one rule for those that dont give a monkeys...quite a lot of
"anglers" dont have the time of day for syndicates, but I for one can se the sense in perhaps a dozen or so getting together and ,making an offer for
a length of river , agreeing to, and keeping it in good order, respecting the close season, keeping it tidy , policeing it, etc etc...
No, I am not a syndicate member, but it surely must be the way forward for some areas. I do understand that some of us ( me included ) could not afford the luxury of being a syndicate member, and you could say that the honest angler who does abide by club rules is being deprived of his sport by syndication. A pity that there are those amongst us who would ruin it for others, (bivvy city , overnighting , ignoring close seasons ,etc ) but thats the way it is. |

If the farmer's (you can park at the lower farm too) stopped access then the fishing rites would be irrelevant. My take on it is that he encourages the
night fishing and makes a nice little pot on the side throughout the season , the rubbish issue wont bother the farmer much most of them use the river as a
free disposal unit anyway .
If it was bailiffed properly then lots of things could be sorted easily ,the thing is who wants the hassle that entails , I have been asked to do it but I go to the river for relaxation to restore my patience level not to be provoked by some of the idiots that have no regards for her well being . One thing that should be stopped is where the slate bed splits the river , people fishing over the top of it , when a foot or so above normal level and then dragging any fish across it , this is just a crazy thing to do .
