I always fish a stretch of the river that always has bullocks in and I have never had a problem. On the rare occasion in the past that I took my dog with me it
was a different story as they seem to get very aggressive around him and have tried to butt him.I won't take him anymore.
I also found the picture of the Spanish retard killing the bull disgusting and this surely has to be one of the most barbaric practices on the planet.I almost got into a fight in Spain once after arguing with a local about this sorry excuse for entertainment whereby a bull is taunted and slowly killed.I would like to do the same to a few of them and see how they liked it. |

AndyK - sorry about the picture, and I certainly don't disagree with you about the bullfighting, `running' and all the other stuff that people in these
backwards countries get up to..

Heifers and bullocks can be a bit 'playful' , they behave very much like groups of adolescents mooching about on the streets . There is usually a ring
leader who will instigate 'run at the angler' and others think ' this looks like fun ' and join in . Secret , stand up to the leader and 99%
of the time they will back off and drift away . I think they are more dangerous when they stand on the top of high banks watching whatever is below , I have
seen cows go in the drink when the bank has collapsed , woe betide any angler underneath .

Last summer I walked Charlie, my then two year old lab in a field next to the Thames. I knew from previous walks that the farmer kept a herd of cows in the
next field separated by a sturdy and relatively new barbed wire fence. As we walked along the footpath we came across a solitary cow in our field. Charlie and
the cow stared eachother out for a few seconds before the cow made a charge. Not being the brightest mutt in the world, Charlie charged back. "Cow v dog
in a game of chicken, this doesn't look good," I thought. Fortunately that cow backed down, turned on its heel and, still being chased by Charlie, ran
back to her 'own' field. Just as I had visions of the cow smashing into the barbed wire fence she jumped and cleared it easily - like Red Rum at
Beechers Brook - and returend to the rest of the herd. Charlie pulled up short and came running back with a big stupid grin on his face. To this day he thinks
cows are other dogs!

Blankingbloke, I wasn't having a go at you for putting the picture up but was just generalising about my opinions on this fiasco that the Spanish label as
entertainment.
I also think that it is up to the more civilised of us in the world to let other countries know when we disapprove of something.Sod local traditions.Anything that involves the drawn out torture and mutilation of an animal for the amusement of others is bang out of order and disgusting.Anyone who argues otherwise in my opinion is wrong. These animals may not be intelligent like us but they still feel pain and experience fear. |

Which just goes to prove that there is no universal agreement on what is considered morally or ethically acceptable, or indeed, what is meant by 'civilized'.I think a `civilized' person just `knows' when a line has been crossed - maybe it's conscience..? I haven't got a problem with fishing, I haven't got a problem with shooting, but I definately have a problem with bullfighting, dogfighting, cockfighting and any kind of `hunting' with hounds.. Letting people `enjoy' their local, barbaric traditions? Maybe a lot of the problems in the world today, in a more general sense, wouldn't exist if less people had this `blind eye' attitude.. |

That's completely fine as far as i'm concerned - civilization can certainly withstand a little civilized disagreement and debate..
Again - it's a `line' - what's a reasonable difference of opinion, and what's completely out of order? Hopefully `civilized people will let their conscience decide! |

The trouble arises when certain factions seek to impose their particular 'line' on others who have a different 'line'.
Which is why I it worries me when anglers seek to do just that to people who pursue other sports that involve human/animal interaction. We seem to have got off topic! Cows don't bother me, they are usually docile and just stare at you. Bullocks are stupid, skittish and prone to following you while running around kicking up their hind legs. Best to be wary of them when walking, but if you are sat still they also usually just stare. Bulls I simply do not trust.

Human/Animal interaction?
Blimey - talk about a sanitised description of blood sports

I was thinking of things like horse racing and so forth as well, which some nutters apparently find as abhorrent as bull fighting.
