15lbs 4ozs from "above Wansford". That's quite big isn't it?
English as tuppence, changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss
Havishambling, hermit-crab, tight-fist, eremite, feudal still, reactionary Rawlinson End.

Pete, that would be a new river record. Thats a huge fish but especially from the Nene. Would like to see a photo...
Tom, great result mate. I'm starting to wonder just how many are in the Nene. Had a repeat capture tonight, fish weighed 8lb 14oz, a very distinct fish that both Nige and I caught last season. Was my only fish of a short session. |

Perhaps I should have added that I didn't catch it
It was caught
by Steve Teeson and is in tonight's Peterborough Evening Telegraph. It is in superb condition and looks every ounce of the weight claimed. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/angling/Another-England-call-forTaylor.4219731.jp
Don't worry, it is the right link. It's just that I haven't a clue how to rename it. I created a desktop shortcut and renamed it, but couldn't
post it. How do you do that?

cheers alex, well done on your start and you nige.the river seems to be on form at the moment lets just hope no big floods like last year come and disrupt the
barbel and our angling.
the 15 is a beast looks really long im sure there's a few about in the nene as bob said hardly anyone fish certain stretchs and especially for barbel so who knows what giants are swimming in the river.does anyone know was he barbel fishing or a carp angler and picked up the beast by surprise i truly hope he was a barbel angler if not still fair play to him.a great result and well in to him. can't get out on the bank till early next wk im like a kid waiting for christmas |

Nige if thats thats true then, i saw the picture of the previous fish, and lets say the picture did not do justice to the size of the fish

Hi Bob,
Had a look at the photo and if the geezer is a midget .The fish could only weigh 6 or 7 pounds. Just kidding Steve if your looking in.Wonder if its the same fish he caught last
year.Anyway, its a fine looking fish and i have no reason to doubt the weight.
cheers Nige |

Hi chaps,
After 2 biteless sessions on the Ouze at Turvey I have decided to have a few biteless sessions on the Nene (its nearer home). This will be my first trip to the Nene targeting barbel (I have heard it is pretty hard but at least I should get a few carp while I'm waiting). See you on the bank. Geoff |

hi geoff, the hardest part on the nene is finding them once you've found them and conditions are right game on.
suppose the same as most places. good luck mate |

Well done Tom,that's a great looking fish mate.And you made the front page.Had a 9lb 10oz on sunday afternoon.Quickest one i've had yet,only 30 secs
after casting in and wollop.Had some saws on its belly and the bottom of its gill plates. Is this from bad handling or spawning?
JW.I believe there are barbel at Yarwell caravan park. But i think you have to camp there to fish.Might be worth giving them a ring. Cheers Nige. |

Tom, congratulations on the front page and the repeat capture....that's a good fish.
The Nene seems to be fishing well at the moment....lets hope this doesn't change. Had a few hours on Tuesday evening and suffered from another hook pull......ended up with a 4lb chub for my efforts !! |

thanks alex, ive been messing bout with the scales and they seem to be reading pretty good had problems zero them on the sling last night.anyway i got a reading
of 11lb 6oz of the fish last night so it must be the weight it looked alot bigger, long and really thick had a 11'2 the other sunday and the 11,6 looked
alot bigger than that.prety sure its the same fish i had last year.he's a right old warrior.will get the pic in the gallery soon.
think i got a bit excited, and frustrated with the scales. my apologies tom |

2 barbs and a carp of 16lb 7 ounces this afternoon. First barb went about 5 1/2lb but the second was a scraper double of 10lb 2oz. Crappy picture I'm
afraid as i did not have the camera set right.
Water is up about a foot and is still pretty clear. I suspect the level has something to do with the rain from the showers on Thursday as well as the rain yesterday, i think the level should rise more through the night a bit. Bob

Well in Bob. Not a bad carp too !
Had a few hours after work last night, nothing apart from a little tap, probably from a chub. Agree with you, the water was still pretty clear and about a foot up. Lets hope the rain can put some colour in the rivers....I think it needs it. alex |
