duelling banjos...
Was down ross on wye way this weekend - only one boris..but still first one of the season...river level dropping quite quickly, water quite murky but clearing with a massive amount of loose string weed, coming down. |

i am having a family holiday at symonds yat on 08/08 and was wondering what the fishing is like.i would be very grateful if anybody could tell me what its
like and is there any day ticket stretches near there.we usually fish on the severn at bridgnorth .but thought we would have a change this year.

symonds yat is absolutely crazy with boats, both canoes and tour boats and private monstrosities
cracking stretch of river almost ruined but still well worth a dangle i think newport angling have the stretch i fished but i'm sure you can pay on the bank

Newport aa is members only from this year . Keith fish the biblins , get your day ticket from ross angling in ross on wye . Or go down to the monnow in
monmouth and fish the free stretch in the town some barbel and chub to be had further down stream where the monnow meets the wye .

Loads of Barbel in front of the Ferry Inn, they love the halibut or boilies, I've heard they've been had to 13 out there!!!
Have a pint while you fish too, instead of leaving cans on the bank or floating downstream. Another one worth a try is just below Tintern Abbey in the tidal reaches, you neeed 8oz gripper leads though.. Heard there's barbel to 19lb come out, no shoot some guy came into Wye Angling a couple of weeks ago saying the average stamp is 17. His minder then came to take him to Greggs for a gingerbread man. Well had the stretch to myself tonight.. what a difference a week makes lol Still haven't managed to winkle a Boris out tho hmmmmm confidence starting to wane a little may have to try easier river lol Brian

for the first time this season, i went for a look at the river yesterday. seems to be alot more streamer weed this year than last!
had a brief dabble, and managed a small barbel of around 5lb first cast, but then had nothing after that. ah, isn't it great to be back on the rivers! |

Last year we had massive floods at this time of year......remember the Severn at Tewkesbury etc? Stopped the weed growth. This year the rainfall is pretty
average and so the weed is pretty average. Nice to have it though, it's what the Wye's all about in the summer.
