Probably, but it is very easy to always blame the magazines - admittedly in some cases people are right to do so - when much of what we publish comes in from
our readership, including them naming the venues that they caught from.
I'm not in any way trying to stir things up, but it does annoy me when people have a go at all the angling magazines in such general terms - fair enough if i wrote an article blowing open a bit of river that had been kept a bit of a secret I'd expect some flack. It is a bit like saying all builders are cowboys.
From my own fishing - i do quite a bit on the Thames and never name particular stretches in print - if the Police are coming round and moving people on who are creating a nuisance by leaving litter, getting drunk and making noise whilst fishing then i don't see it as being a bad thing anyway. Better that these people are got rid of before they cause enough trouble that local residents and other river users start pushing for angling bans on some stretches.
