i dont mind as long as the feed goes in to get them munching again! seems the 3 month wait without any has made them a bit sketchy again. anyway its not like
it's an unknown stretch, it gets covered in Anglers Mail every other week >

true, but if you come on here tomorrow and say "I caught 5 barbel, 2 carp, and 100lb of bream" people are gonna know exactly where you were, and you
wont get near it in the near future.
Up to you though, personally dont fish there, so makes no odds to me

I see your point andI'll take care in the future, but I was really after some advice from people who've fished along their before for barbel so I sort
of had to name it!

Well last night, i went out with my son, again no Barbel on the lower, just two slabs each. Two interesting points last night, i spoke to a friend who had 3
barbel from the beginning of the season but they where very small, all around the the 2-3lb mark which is good for the future. Also he also had heard of very
little coming out of the lower from shepperton to kingston.
The second point was the police turned up and to the dismay of all the bivvy/carp boys they were told to take the bivvy's down as the police and council were enforcing local bye laws that state no camping. Then they were moaning to the police about my 50 inch brolly the my son and i were sitting under. But as the policeman said to me " You have no problems with your umbrella its the tents that are the problem" The trouble is they are blocking the footpaths and the rivers edge. So bye bye bivvys where i fish.
It was this BIG

interesting what you say about the bivvys, I remember about 6 or 7 years ago night fishing outside laleham campsite for pike, and the little dude that cleans
up the river asked us to take our bivvy down, (2 us in one bivvy) and said that if we didnt that he would call the police.
He said that if you wanted to set up a tent you had to pay and set it up in the campsite then fish the river without it!! Seems stupid, i have seen alot of inconsiderate anglers that set up there 2 floor, 8 berth bivvies in swims barely big enough for a 50inch brolly! It seems they feel that as they pay for the rod licence they can do waht they like, which also involve leaving the 4 stella cans and bag of fishing rubbish I found and cleared up in my swim a couple of days ago!! I myself have a bivvy, its a one man, more like an oval brolly really, but I consider myself thoughtful of others when i set it up, I certainly wouldnt set it up in the middle of a foot path. I would like to hope that none of the inconsiderate guys are members of this site??

Has anyone seen the Maidenhead Advertiser this week.
Front page says that the recent high water has left a load of dead fish and debris outside the Waterside Inn at Bray. It mentions several Carp, but does anyone have any more detail than this. Not good. |

Saw that Steve, no mention as to how big they were but could of been escapee's again from the recent floods. I know a couple of venues upstream have
probably lost fish again this year where Thames tribs have breached their banks. Have heard of only one other dead carp ( on the lower ) though I saw several
mysellf on the middle last year. Had a 10.5 common from a backwater yesterday morning. What carp I have seen this year have got some nasty sores and red
marks on their backs and flanks. Hopefully nothing serious but lets keep our eyes peeled chaps.

Managed a quick session on Wednesday in my "banker swim", warm and overcast. Fished from 12 till 3pm, and ended up with 8 fish ranging from about
4lb, through to 10lb 2oz, with three over 9lb. Most enjoyable, they were hardly letting the feeder settle before the tip was wrapping round. It was about time
after watching Jutt land that awesome 12lb 10oz fish on the first morning. A truely beautiful barbel.

I had a great little session yesterday evening on the lower, 6 Barbel, best fish 9lb 7oz, the rest between 6-9 pound, had three clonking rub-a-dubs (they are
on it bigtime this week !) and.... a cheeky little 9lb Common carp that scrapped like he was 30lb ! Great fun !

Thanks Dave, will do mate
Planned a few hours out last night on the lower, but an attempted break in through my bedroom window had me up at 2.30am sunday morning, followed by a 4 hour trip to A&E with a suspected broken finger after trying hit him, and didnt wanna leave missus at home alone just to go fishng, so that put pay to that

Hi Guys,
Thought I'd better sign up and start contributing after too long spent lurking! This is my second season fishing the Thames and after some good sport last year hoping for more of the same! Managed a short trip out Sunday morning at a new spot for me near Walton and caught a small barbel of about 5lb and a few bream so was nice to get the account started. First fish for me in the daylight as well so maybe haven't got to keep rolling into work looking like a zombie! Good luck all, have enjoyed reading your reports Jim |

HI Guys,
I'm appealing to everyones better nature here for some info on local stretches to fish. Ive just moved up from Hampshire to Putney and would like to know clubs/fihereies close to Putney? Happy to exchange some info on the Dorset Stour and Hants Avon just to prove im not a free loader....Ive joined cemex @ St Patricks Stream near Reading and Farnham angling which controls some stretches of the Loddonbut its a bit of a trek and also have checked out the Kennet Burghfield however due to the amount of rubbish dumped there and kids/thugs mucking around on bikes and walking around with dogs etc near the car park i'm happy to give it a miss.... I have to say Im very dissapointed with the general condition of most of the fisheries ive looked at on the cemex book...unless anyone can prove me wrong!? Thanks in advance... |

Hi Tony,

Hi Tony C,
Welcome to the Thames thread. You travel to the Kennet ,St Pat's and the Loddon. To get there you have drive along the Thames which is on your doorstep. Anywhere below Staines is free fishing where you have access. It's not an easy river to fish as the Barbel are not spread out like currents in a fruit cake, but the rewards can be great if you can find them. The Mole and the Wey are also quite close to you and both hold a fair head of Barbel. If you'd like more specific venue info, send me a PM. John I fish, therefore I am... |
