Went down to have a look yesterday, despite the rain the water has gone down very quickly. I guess the EA were a little better informed than last year and didn't want to look fools again by getting it wrong. Water is well coloured with only a little debris coming down. Saw some carp, there were loads about last year in the flood confitions. The lake next door seems to be stuffed with carp this year, they are everywhere.... had one feeding about 2' from the bank and it took no notice of me at all. Really looking forward to this season. A new bait to try out, and will be putting in more effort on the pre-baiting front as i kinda lost track on that one last year, especially with all the high pressure we had from early September.

Just going out to buy a laod of boillies at half price to shove in the river to keep the carp in the area as they are good sport. Just hope i don't get taken to the cleaners again like last year by one particular fish. I can hold a 20lb'er but not this fish. Anyway, rods are now Shimano 2lb Hyperloop BX fishplay action and going to use 12lb line as well so i stand a better chance if i come across one of the bigguns.

Kinewell stretch is now members only with no day tickets, full membership to be able to fish at night has been taken up by the carpers who all fish the lake, so the river is basically all mine at night It will also be heavily "policed" this year to stop poachers The wier pool which is syndicated (yep i'm in that too), is going to be gated off, again to stop poaching.

So looks good for the season ahead, hope all you fellow Nene anglers have a good one. Anybody going for barbel on the Wellingborough bit at Ringstead complex ? PM me if you are.

Thanks Nige, good luck to you too. The carp are eating loads of free offerings, 1/2kg seems to last 5 mins. Haven't seen a barbel yet, the water is now becoming clearer but they are still letting alot through. Prospects for Monday are looking good.

At last I'm off the mark, just a scamp which clutched me whereas the carp didn't. I think the carp is the same one Duncan caught on Monday which weighd 14 1/2lb, just got to check the picture against one another - No not the same fish, mine was alot smaller so must have been about 10lb. The carp is one of those ones which escaped in the floods about 10 years ago. It's got a mouth like it was chewing a wasp and lost.
