Not many reports from the first 5 days of the new season, are you all waiting for a drop of rain.

Hoping to be out for my first crack at the Medway Monday evening and Tuesday. Fingers crossed for a successful opener.
It seems from what many are saying, that in most areas the barbel have either just finished spawning are are still in the process of spawning. So this would explain a slow start to the season. Any evidence of this on the Medway? |

I always think the first couple of weeks are never a great time on the banks fishing after such a long lay off, and not having much rain of late hasn't
help a great deal, plus the bright days and low temperatures at night may of stop many Barbel from spawning ?

Hi Oaksey
down the river on Thursday, the Barbel looked to be getting ready to spawn again, pushing and chasing each other. Also saw a few big carp, hope this helps Andy. |

Andy, did you see them at Ashurst?
It has been a bit of a slow start to the season, from the thread in the main pages, do you think using the more natural baits would get a better result? I tried prawns at the start of the season last year and had some cracking Chub and one nice Barbel, the bites were proper wrap rounds. |

Andy that seems to be in keeping with other reports. The weather and early high river levels have either delayed spawning or caused a second bout of spawning,
if this is possible.

Maybe the amount of pellets & boilies thrown at the fish has taken the edge off their appetites! Very quiet at Ashurst today; ended with a single chub and
hooked lots of snags in different swims - most didn't budge with 10lb line.

That has been my experience of it this season with new snags in very srategic places

Just had an evening session at ashurst from 5.30 to9.30 had 13 chubb in the 2 to 4lb bracket with one lump which i guess was a good 5lb huge belly ready to
spawn as were a few of them. river quite low but a good flow , light feediing with mini pellet alternating pellet and boillee as bait and swiching between
braid and nylon hook links . all fish from one swim had to wait 45 minutes for first take and had a spell betwwen 7 and 8.30 where had 7or8 of them and missed
a few others.

i was down stream of the bridge, when i left there was a lot of fish disturbing the water above the bridge my guess is that some tightly shoaled fish were at some stage of spawning i will keep trying for a barbel given myself till sept befor trying elsewhere |

Out on the River for the first time this evening with Sane ..................... both of us had plenty of knocks and ended with a couple of chub a
piece
but alas no barbel. Packed up at around 10 when the mozzies came
out.
Had the banks to ourselves ................ oh.................apart from a rather annoying herd of cows No place for you to be Oaksey especially as there was one huge bull in amongst
them
River in very good nick with good colour and a steady flow ................... some chub and barbel still apear to be spawning in the shallows above the bridge .
