hello everyone, i'm new to this forum and barbel fishing in general! I've never caught a beardie before, but plan to change that this season
My
local large river is the thames, and the fishing available to me is from chertsey down to about staines/sunbury. As a pleasure angler, and conniseur of small
rivers and pittoresque ponds, a huge river like the thames seems daunting and well I've no idea where to start! I would be grateful for some tips or even
someone in the area to take me about to show me how to approach such a river.

Yeah, nice fish Luke, well done, and yep, shame about that shirt, and I thought you were an all right bloke, still could have been worse and been a Man Utd
shirt...
Am managing a few fish this week.... Out on a new bit found over the close season yesterday late afternoon/evening, first cast a nice 11lb exactly fish, next cast Chub, then a bit later a little scamp of a beard of 4lb and then.... Wallop a nice big 12lb 7oz Whisker!!! 2 12 lb fish in a week, and an 11 pounder,what's going on ? Out on the Loddon later, but before hand, and just back from a sneaky little Thames sesh on another new little bit, one Barbel of about 8lb and a Chub.. Am I pleased or what ? I am sure the Loddon will provide a reality check later though....

Had four hours this morning, the outcome being four slabs but no Barbel. River had a nice pace to it, could be on the rise again with more rain forecast.

did a few hours yesterday on the lower river, not for barbel tho,
managed a few nice roach on float geat, immaculate fish, before hooking something that I couldnt budge for 5 mins, before turning downstream and powering off, snapping me up straight away!! No idea what it was, as I didnt see it, but it had some weight on it. Maybe a barbel, maybe a carp, maybe a catfish, who knows!!! So im gonna return with heavier gear. Managed a couple of fighting fit pike around 6lb a piece too, on lures. Will be out next week, need to get in as much as I can, as our baby is due any day, so fishing will be on hold for a bit once he is here

Going to try the Laleham stretch this evening, fishmeal gbait and worms I reckon for some nice bream fishing, still no beardies showing along this stretch.

Dan, you should be a little less descriptive of the places you fish. If you fish tonight and catch a barbel or 2, then chances are you wont get near the place
any time in the future as everyone and their dog will be there.
