I joined Crooky & Chubby for the evening (some of us have to work during the day) and blanked.
Mind you the "Ian" clan had grabbed the best swims (my excuse and I'm sticking to it
).
Will try again tonight.

Anyone know how Aldermaston Mill is fishing? Is it busy?
My sister wants picking up from Kingsclere this weekend (I leave near York!!) so I thought I might sneak in a session while I'm down there... Got to be Aldermaston as I don't know any other day tickets waters in the area. Unless, of course, someone can offer me a guest ticket on a club water? R. |

Hi guys,
Despite my name I would like to fish the Kennet at some point, specifically at Aldermaston Mill. I've never caught a barbel before, and am hopeing for a much better chance fishing the Kennet. So, could anybody possibly give me some pointers of how to fish the Mill, and possibly catch my first barbel Thanks! |

best advice I could give is .... don't do what everyone else does..... fish a moving bait and keep mobile... they've seen it all so try the
unexpected......

Good session for me too yesterday.
A 9-2 (looked much bigger and would be 11+ in the winter) and 8-0 (both fish in good condition) + 1 chub in a short session after work.
Well done Chubby on a successful first trip. Gavin |

I had my first session today on a new venue and lost a fish after just 2 hours fishing.
It nearly took the rod down the river but as soon as I put pressure on it the hook length snapped. I'm well gutted I dont like leaving hooks in fish and it was my first barbel take since August/September last year. Rich

Wesley,
No one is going to post any information about a particular stretch on an open website with thousands of people viewing, hopefully!!!! Anyhow, fished the Kennet this morning for a chub and 2 Barbel, 6ish and 8ish..........weather was orrible.

Fished Aldermaston Mill today and had my first ever barbel after 2 seasons of trying.... 10lb 1oz! Can't believe I managed a double with my first one.
Also had a 5lb 6oz Chub and another of 3lb.
The mill seemed to be fishing pretty slow today - only a couple of barbel out from what I heared. Anyway I caught it on 10mm pellet. Interestingly I ran out of 10mm pellets and had to borrow some larger (maybe 18mm?) from the guy next to me and didn't have a knock after that. I wonder whether the chub / barbel are shy of the bigger 'hookbait' pellets which is why I caught on the smaller ones? Anyway, advice for ThamesJosh or anyone else going there for the first time. It opens at 8 but get there early - 7:30 latest - so you get your choice of swim. The bailiff (Pete I think?) will give you great advice and put you in the right swim and tell you where the runs and holes are. He will tell you that meat works best and not to bother loose feeding anything - that's what he told me anyway! Paul |

Crooky, there are possibly 30+ swims on the Lower Benyons over what a mile of river? I asked how the stretch was fishing NOT has anyone caught from a
particular swim so my question was a fair one buddy... I see you've started the season on fire.... I hope i get off my duck sooner rather than later..
Tight line.. Wes

Wes..... fished it for 13 hours on June 17........... not a touch, only one fish came out that I can verify.... around 8 lb... first few days were gruelling to
say the least.same with UB.... hopefully it's changed in the last couple of days......but as Ian said...if it has..... no one's going to boast about it
here.............

Paul - congratulations on your first Barbel and a double as well!
After having to work all week I managed my first trip yesterday, determined to get out even though there were lots of reports of people struggling. when I arrived there were a number of people leaving, not had a touch and not much had come out throughout the stretch all day. However I guess I was very lucky and dropped into the right spot at the right time as I caught two barbel 11lb and 12-5, both fish came in the same hour between 5 & 6 pm and not a touch afterwards. Left just before a torrential downpour, two doubles on my first session, well happy! Steve. |

Wes, ok, report: It is very busy...........................i.e. almost every productive swim taken by 8.00 am daily, is that better? Oh, and very little being
caught as spawning continues.........

I got a week off from the 30th so plan to get fishing a lot that week.
I have to get the train to my venue as my mate is not gonna join this year so if any body can help me I'd like to know how far away Padworth Lane is from Aldermaston train station and how long it would take to walk the said trip. Rich It's funny how we don't sell guns but Toronto bangs! |

Rich,
Doesn't look too far - perhaps 30 mins at a brisk trot...(don't take too much gear), not sure if there are any footpaths though (!) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Aldermaston+Rail+Station,+United+Kingdom&daddr=padworth+lane&sll=51.399194,-1.126172&sspn=0.019304,0.037251&ie=UTF8&z=16 |
