Hello lads, fishing the Derwent for the first time this season on the P.O.D sections, beautiful river, can't wait to grace it's banks. Looking forward
to a bit of perching as well as the barbel fishing which brings me to a quick question if i may? Is the river on the P.O.D stretches capable of barbel/perch in
most of it's length or is it peggy? Going down for a recce for the first time this morning, much prefere to fish the lighter used swims with a little
exploring rather than in the 'going' swims hence the question.
Cheers in advance lads and look forward to posting on the thread and bumping into one or two of you for a chat. |

Steve, theres a lot of barbel in the POD stretch of the Derwent and they are pretty well spread out. Obvously some areas are more productive than others,
theres not many...if any swims that you won't catch barbel from
The
hardest bit is finding where the bigger ones live. I'm sure you will have fun finding this out when the season starts. The same with the perch, I saw a
very nice one the other day on a walk up there...hopefully hes still there next week...
Enjoy your recce this morning, sure you will see plenty of likely looking swims. And good luck to everyone else fishing the Derwent this season

Thanks Matt, just got back from a walk along the banks, what a stunning place with so much to explore, I really think im going to enjoy fishing there. It
wasn't ideal spotting conditions but i did see a few
Does it get busy down there? There looks a few worn swims and then overgrown, with nobody fishing there since March nature has had time to repair the trodden paths and it all looks very good indeed. Regards, Steve. |

It doesnt get too busy down there at all...and a lot of people will fish those 'worn swims' leaving plenty for you to go at, especialy if you
don't mind a bit of a walk. At the same time though, I wouldn't ignore the worn swims altogether, at the end of the day they get fished a lot for a
reason |

hi blue, i was down yesterday from 3pm til 7.30pm. she,s running very clear, i fished a couple of swims and managed 4 barbel to 9lb 13oz, they where all
showing signs of recent spawning, apart from that they where all in pristine condition, and let me tell you it felt good to be back again.

After having spent some 5+ hours blanking on The Trent at Thrumpton on Monday afternoon/evening, I resolved to not kick off the long-awaited new
season on a downer and scuttled over to The PoD stretch, banking on the fact that, by ten o'clock I should be able to find some unoccupied swims.
Even better still, my favourite banker swim was free, and after just a couple of pouchfuls of hemp 'n' pellet I set up up my Elips rod and.....blimey, in just five minutes I had my first barb of the season (8lb 6 oz) A
couple of chub followed (around 3lb+) and then two more barbel (7lb 4 oz & 4lb 8 oz) by midnight.
Not a particularly auspicious start (compared to the various scenarios that had been repeatedly conjured in my imagination over the past few weeks ) but at least I didn't score a first-day duck egg this time!
Roll on Thursday, I 've now got that bit of confidence that I need to cash in on for my next outing (not sure just where yet!) Cheers Roger PS You're right Wishbone, it did feel soooooo good to be back again

Had my 2nd session down there today, fished from 5.30 this morning to 7.30 tonight for a 5.7 chub and an 8lb barbel. The whiskers came right at the end as I was
packing up,you know the "old back to the river trick"alerted by the sound of the baitrunner doing it's job.
Both barbel I've had from the river came around the same time in the evening,is it an evening river? Both days were really quiet up until last knockings. As I'm new to this river any help from regulars would be appreciated. |

Dylan, later is definately better for me, but then I really only fish afternoons/ evenings....8.30 to 9pm seems to be a good time for me at the mo
Seems to picking up a bit, had 5 barbel Monday and 6 yesterday (and some chub, perch and a carp). The rain has bought a bit of colour to the water, with the weather like it is now should be good for the next few days... |

Cheers Mr.B,I think I might have packed up a bit early on both days but I was knackered after really early starts and had a fair old drive home.
I've been fishing on the Derbyshire County stretch at Borrowash, totally on my own.Is that because it's rubbish or the fact that I needed a bath? As I said in another post I've only started on this river this season so any tips or advice would really be appreciated. |
