Posts: 237 (19/06/08 12:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Whilst waiting for whiskerton to turn up yesterday i went for a look round collingham only to find the weir field car park looking like a land fill site i really hope non of culprits use this site there were bags of rubbish and empty beer cans and bottles left in 2 piles these people can carry it to their swims but can`t take it home even though it weighs a lot less it`s not the bailiffs resposibilty to clean up after anglers also found rubbish and a tent left in 1 swim. with the happenings bewdley recently these morons are putting our sport at risk what do the dog walkers and bird watchers think when they see this sort of thing i dread to think the problem is how do we stop it the club has problems policing the area properly and the bailiffs do a good job but they can`t risk confronting some of these people plus many leave there rubbish and leave never to be seen again . both weeklies mentioned it as a good place to go for barbel which i don`t think helps cheers si

Perhaps day ticket waters should note car reg nos against pegs? Warnings and bannings should get the message across, seems straightforward to me. Al

Posts: 48 (19/06/08 15:40) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	On turning up in a stretch that is V popular this time of year on the B Avon on the 17th, I filled a carrier bag I had with me with atleast 10 Stella cans, Mr kipling cake wrappers and what was left of their chinese takeaway containers, and a few packets of empty L & Butlers... Unbelievable mentality of these idiots !! (and the first weekend is still to come!?)

I wouldn't fancy being a bailiff on the Collingham stretch either and trying to eject some of the louts that go down. Also given that Collingham AA make a large amount of money out of the day tickets it would,t hurt to put a skip in the car park. What one understands is only half true. What one does not understand is the full truth.

That will only encourage rats and weaken the message that rubbish should be taken home. It needs a few high profile bannings, followed by prosecutions to get the message across. The swims downstream of the conveyor get filled with all kinds of @#%$ after a hot, sunny day. It's always lager cans, half full pop bottles, @@% packets and chocolate biscuit wrappers. It needs a bit of covert action by anglers to photograph some of these people while they are fishing and then photograph whatever they leave behind. Then there needs to be a board erected with these people's photo's on, stating why they were banned and saying how much they were fined. It really will take action as drastic as that to get through to some of these morons. English as tuppence, changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, hermit-crab, tight-fist, eremite, feudal still, reactionary Rawlinson End.

Posts: 238 (19/06/08 20:03) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	pete its very difficult to get these people fined but i agree high profile bannings and maybe named and shamed in the weeklies might help after all, the AT will promote collingham as a barbel venue but doesn`t see the other side of the coin as said before duplicate tickets need to be taken by bailiffs with car reg`s and i still think a rod licence should be produced before the tickets are issued and names taken from these but we all have to remember that this will have to be undertaken by mel and gerry and the other bailiffs and we are still talking about a very small group who offend and as spiros said many you wouldn`t want to confront .as i always say this isn`t just a problem at collingham but because of its pedigree as a fishery it does get hammered although its only the first few fields the rest isn`t heavily fished but even some well known anglers limit themselves to these few areas and the more they highlight it the more attention it gets as a fishery its great and i still fish it on a regular basis when i take freinds who have never been barbel fishing this is my first port of call because your always in with a chance and as a club member it makes me sad that in this day and age we still have minority of people spoiling it for the rest

Posts: 6 (20/06/08 20:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Echo all of these comments.My favourite stretch of the W.Avon looked pristine on opening day,turned up the next morning to find beer cans and carrier bags full of rubbish.I really cannot understand the mentality of some people,you take it to the riverbank with you in a rucksack so why is it so difficult to put it back in when you leave?Those who leave litter obviously have no respect for the environment in which they fish,and so should leave our rivers alone and stick to commercial puddles,where there's a bin every 10 yards,and someone on hand to clean up after you if you simply can't be bothered to walk that far.Anglers tend to get a bad enough press as it is without ignorant ******** turning the countryside into a tip.

As a nation we are untidy, ignorant and inconsiderate and it only follows that those with this attitude will transfer their habits to the riverbank. It's a social problem and I despair actually - it's probably only because the majority of non-anglers who walk the banks are quite happy to litter themselves that we do not come in for more stick. Only today I saw a group of office workers, suited and booted, sit on a town centre bench with their pre pack sandwiches and designer coffee's walk away and leave all the litter behind, despite there being a bin at the side of the bench. I despair for humanity.
